The city is very charming and don´t offer many choices for hotels. This one was old, but also a little bit rustic, considering the city atmosphere. The breakfast, even though without many choices was very tastefull.
The matress was a little bit wavy and not permmit a complete sleep. Another point was the shower with no curtains or plastic/glass box, what means that is impossible to take a bath and not to wet the intire space in the bathroom.

This traditional home retains much of its original ambience and as such was an experience we were looking for as we explored Bulgaria. It was comfortable enough as long as you are ok getting your bags up two flights of stairs. Parking was anything you could find around on the narrow streets and it was not difficult to find. The location was perfect for exploring this old town on foot
The dinner at their restaurant was a bit dissapointing; we were looking forward to the traditional Bulgarian dishes, but compared to what we had elsewhere it fell a little short for us. And having cats roaming around your table while you eat is not something I care for

Wonderful location in beautiful Melnik. Helpful and friendly staff. Good air conditioning in room. Good food.
Water supply not 100% reliable. Unable to have shower on arrival as water was down

It is a decent hotel. The staff is really polite and helpful. The restaurant is fine and the breakfast is good. The atmosphere of the hotel is excellent. The hotel location is good and it is easily accessible.
As I said the staff is very polite and helpful, but they can do so much, since they have to work with that they have. As in majority of the hotels around the country the bathrooms need total renovation. When the shower is used the water splashes all over the bathroom floor and the entire space becomes unusable, unless the water form the floor is cleaned out. Also, the bathrooms are getting warn out and they cry for renovation.

Despot Slav is very climatic place perfectly located between Wine Museum and Kordopulov's House. Rooms are clean and cozy. The real highlight of our stay was restaurant with delicious food and wine. We spend our evenings sitting on the restaurant's balcony and enjoying beautiful view.
Nothing :)

Great location and easy to park near by. Very friendly staff, happy to help if you need anything. Comfortable mattress and very quiet during the night. Great value for money. Breakfast was nice except for the coffee
Not a problem for me, but not advisable for elderly people due to steep staircase.
Espresso is extra charge at breakfast - no issue but it wasn’t good.
Lack of yogurt at breakfast - something very Bulgarian, it should always be offered.

Nice comfortable room with everything you need for a short stay, comfortable bed, hot water in the shower, a kettle and good Wi-Fi signal. It is within walking distance of everything and breakfast included was a bonus.

The staff was polite and friendly, especially Eli, whom we're grateful for all the information and her attitude toward us. We didn't feel the lack of anything during our stay. It was a comfortable and pleasant experience. There's a restaurant and it covered all our needs for tasty and nourishing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Melnik and the surrounding areas are beautiful and inspiring and the Despot Slav Hotel was an ideal base for exploring all that from.
Even if there was something we didn't like it's difficult to think of it because as a whole our stay was excellent.

There was no shower cabin. In order to avoid flooding we did not use the shower. Breakfast was the worst of our tour, only one cup of coffee, some scrambled eggs, two slices of bread, some slices of cucumber and tomato.

Due to alot of great reviews here we wnded up booking, but by the life of me i can not understand why this hotel got high ratings
No toilet paper in the room
Wifi didnt reach room
Breakfast was very limited and everything was cold
The shower stand was broken and no mirrors except a small one in the bathroom
The bed was uncomfortable and stiff.
The pictures of the site were clearly taken a long time ago

Very good staff, they were very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was good, not a lot of choices but whatever we had, was good.
The bathroom in that room was extremely small, it was a bit of an issue with having a baby with us. However, we were supposed to have a different room, they offered another room as the first one had a small leakage on the floor. The initial bathroom was pretty spacious.

I like the location and as we know the place for quite a while; We loved the fireplace in the lobby, it is tremendous amount of effort to keep this fire running all the time. I liked that even after the toilet was not having water the first night, they fixed it the next day;
Room was really small but price is higher. Breakfast is included in price, but normal coffee is not. I've had to pay for tea too. Restaurant allows smoking inside.
There was a massive party and restaurant was fully occupied by some group of people who were parting till very late and smoking inside.

The location is good, the rooms are nicely decorated and the breakfast on Saturday was nice and fresh, made to order.
I booked specifically rooms for 6 adults and 4 children, but the Booking algorithm assigned us to smaller rooms, where there was not enough beds for the kids (this is a Booking.com issue). We changed rooms and paid the difference for the larger room. However, one of the smaller rooms had issue with bed bugs infestation on one of the beds and we had to ask for a different room. The owner suggested that we purposely make problems to move to a bigger room, which was not the case. Bathrooms do not have working fans and smell a bit moldy. We stayed here before and were really satisfied, but this was probably our last visit, hopefully the feedback is considered and the staff changes their attitude and attention to the cleanliness of the rooms. Breakfast on Sunday was not good, all was cold and the french toast (fired bread) was greasy.

The hotel will benefit from some little renovations and better housekeeping for room cleanliness.

We had a nice spacious room and the surroundings are beautiful. We loved the walks in the area, the walk to Rozhen monastery is really recommended. After walking it's good to rest in the hotel and eat the good tasty meals in the restaurant next to the woodfire. There is also a nice outdoor terrace. The people working in the hotel restaurant are friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

Great location in a gorgeous little village with amazing surroundings. The staff was eextremely nice, accomodating and helpful.
The rooms are extremely cold. The central heating was off probably because we were the only guests at the hotel. There is an air-conditioning but we still had to sleep with it on all night. The blankets are eextremely thin and the freezing wind comes through the windows. The bathroom has no bathtubs, or shower cabin, or a curtin so the entire bathroom, including toilet gets flooded when taking a shower.
