Beautiful location!!

The hotel overlooks a beautiful Loch and has a tranquil atmosphere. It’s also close to many of the sites around the island and is an easy drive to Kirkwall and Stromness. The staff were absolutely wonderful. Everyone on site was extremely pleasant, very cheerful and eager to help make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were very well looked after. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We extended our stay an extra night and were offered an upgraded room with a stunning view of the loch and lovely seating area. If you are planning a trip to Orkney, The Merkister is a fantastic home base for your adventures!

Great breakfast and evening meal

Breakfast. I'd been to the Merkister before, and find that the hotel was disappointing this time. The room was small and basic, with no where to work with laptop and some documents. The breakfast was much better, a reminder of what I had appreciated in the past.
Dinner in the bar. We had to dine in the bar, which was not a very pleasing experience. Why little paper napkins with the evening meal?
