Hotel Park Ave NYC

Clean rooms with quality linens. Free minibar and fast wifi. Central location. Great cocktail bar in the basement, but reservations are needed.

I wish there was a front desk staff to explain the hotel and room's set up. Additionally, the check-in times were not clear.

It was very clean, quiet rooms, nicely decorated and convenient restaurant and rooftop bar.

The mattress and the pillows were way too soft and we had a terrible night’s sleep. Back ache and neck pain the next morning. It would be nice to choose firm or soft mattress when booking.

Good location, clean room, good size and comfortable bed.

The security deposit being taken at check-in wasn’t made clear to me by check-in staff (or booking.com who is mainly at fault as that is who I booked with and it was not made clear) however the staff were very dismissive when I returned to reception, confused about this charge. I was made to feel as if I was stupid for not knowing this and was told that the employee disclosed this was happening at check-in which he did not or I would not have been surprised to see $700 leave my account. He simply asked for my card “for incidentals” which I thought to be things like drinks and dinner at the restaurant, room service etc. There was no mention of this security deposit at this time. I have never stayed in New York before and did not know this was policy but was made to feel as if I should have. Regardless of who was at fault, the attitude towards me for questioning this was very disappointing and as a solo female traveller (both employees who I spoke with were male) I felt intimidated by the way I was spoken to. I chose to avoid these members of staff for the remainder of my stay. Other staff members I interacted with were lovely.

Good location, service in the lobby was good

Bathroom smelled like urine when I arrived, room was very dark which with the dark tinted windows was a depressing environment, bathroom finishes were old and there was no shower gel or soap in the shower
