Great place
Hot tub down
5.0 / 10.0
The location was great and the grounds were beautiful.
The air conditioner made noise and blew air, but it was warmer than the air outside. The filter was disgusting (see pics) but cleaning it didn't help.
The bed felt like plywood on top of weak springs.
The hot tub had so much chlorine in it that it made our skin burn as soon as the water touched us. The pool was fine.
Getting into the room in the first place was ridiculous. We had to wait for a receptionist for ages to receive a code to a very fiddly/hard to open lockbox to get a key to open the door... And there is a keypad right there that they could just provide a code by email to each renter.
The last straw was a threat to charge us if we didn't wash and dry the dishes...and there weren't supplies available to do so.

Location is prime. Easy walk to everywhere
Parking is big issue. Had to park several blocks away on the shoulder of the road.
The TV set-up and two controls is difficult and wasn’t ever able to get full functionality over my 3 day stay.

The location is great. The grounds of the property are very nice with lots of pretty plants.
The sliding glass door was very hard to open and shut. The "kitchen" is really small. There is not enough parking for the number of rooms. We had to get back to our room earlier than we wanted everyday in order to get a parking spot.

Nothing. My experience began terribly with checking in. There was nobody at the front and we had to wait 5 hours with our luggages before actually being able to get into our room. Once it was time to check in the host was very rude. We entered the room and it was completely dirty. Bed was not made, random cords all over the table, dirty towels in the shower, used food in the fridge/freezer, and black mold in the AC unit. When we tried to call the number associated with the booking, they never answered. Ended up staying somewhere else due to how bad it was. Had to pay way more than we expected.

The staff at the check in counter were amazing and helpful! The studios have everything you will need. Laundry facilities available for a fee. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub facilities. The location is perfect! So walkable and very close to all the shops! We also had plenty of parking during our stay (thanksgiving week).
The apartment could have been a bit more cleaner. I noticed the bathroom had mold flakes around the shower doors that wasn’t cleaned, and the dishes definitely needed to be washed before use. The AC unit is VERY loud, so recommend bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Its central to Alii Dr. downtown Kona. Landscaping beautiful, nice pool.
The unit I stayed in was dated, the ac unit was extremely noisy, the property is supposed to be no smoking. My neighbors smoked nonstop with the door open and tried to hide it with perfumes, colones sprays etc. Just made it smell worse.

Excellent location, nice courtyard.
Lousy parking. I asked the front desk to help fix 2 dead light
bulbs and got no response from the owner. Minor toilet leak
needs repair, but no one available at front desk.

i love that its quiet and old school hawaii. the location, it feels safe and like that it feels more like an apartment vs a hotel. did not have bugs, that was good, love the fresh plants and garden around, use of the BBq and pool.
the doors and key codes didnt work at all, that was not easy, shower pan needs to be replaced or cleaned better, also this one room could use a tad of an update, the bed, sheets and pillows were basic, yet not comfortable, felt more like a motel 6 the way this room was equipped. when i visited friends in another room, it was very differnt, cute, comfy, and had lots of things to make your stay a little better parking can be tough for some. and anything over 1 floor up can be hard to navigate without an elevator, which i wasnt informed of prior to booking, so had to go up and down a few times with my luggage.

The property was great. Beautiful gardens, close to restaurants and shops, clean, albeit dated decor. The staff at the property were lovely.
Each unit is individually owned - we stayed in a unit managed by Soleil management who were not easy to deal with. We received an email saying we could contact them to get in earlier and I responded to which there was no answer. They deducted further money out of my account, after I paid for the unit and I have no reason why. I emailed. 3 times via booking.com and received no answer. I really liked the location but wouldn’t recommend at this stage given the difficulty with communication.
The staff at the front desk no nothing as units are privately managed.

Property is beautiful.
There was animal urine outside my door. When addressed, I was told there are no janitors on property and to use water to shoot it down.

Fabulous location!! Nice pool and hot tub.
Clean.
This unit could use some updating or should be less expensive. I’ve stayed in several different units at this location that were nicer (decor, updated, more comfortable mattress) that cost comparably the same.

Location was great, nice gardens, clean room, nice pool, view was nice.
No hot water in the shower the whole duration after messaging 4 times no one replied. We had to have cold showers. The reception woman said dont come to her with issues, need to speak to our host. We never heard from our host at all, didnt even know who he was.

The bed was VERY uncomfortable, the towels smelt like cat pee, and there was absolutely no parking past 5pm.

The location is great. Beachfront view from our south-facing room in the Nikau building. The hotel has an old world charm about it. The gardens were nice, especially in the night with the tiki torches on.
No lifts to the upper floors.

Nice property! Location is perfect! Great room with the best view! Everything we needed was there except enough coffee for all the days that we booked, they provided only half!
Other than that it was absolutely great.
Parking is a bit challenging, first come first serve, so couple nights we had to find it elsewhere but we did found close by!
Pool and jacuzzi was nice addition to the stay.
Would come back.

Property was well maintained & location was ideal for walks into Kona.
No assistance or offer to help with luggage up two flights of stairs to room for a retired couple & no elevator available.

Great location in downtown Kona. Easy walking to lots of great restaurants. Parking is free! There is a laundry service on site.
We had a corner unit right next to the main road and the weekend was a little loud.
7.0 / 10.0
The room location within the Hotel Complex and the Hotel Complex location within the Kona township. The veranda overlooked the beach, and it was an easy walk into Kona for restaurants, pubs and shopping.
The receptionist was not very welcoming and the carparking situation was best in best dressed which is unsuitable. We were blessed that this did not become an issue for us personally though and were lucky to jag a carpark when needed.

We have stayed at the Kona in Islander in Two previous times and really enjoy the location, the staff and the grounds. We love that there is a grill, hot tub and pool.
The room that we stayed in was nice and comfortable and suited our needs for the most part. We love coming there but we do have some suggestions for things that would be helpful for travelers coming such a far distance. At the minimum, a broom and dust pan and would be so helpful in keeping the floors clean and therefore the sheets comfortable for sleeping. Chairs and a couple boogie boards would be fantastic as well.

cost and location were great
never once did we interact with anyone on the property. we arrived in middle of night due to flight delays, couldn’t find any parking. finally found our tiny room.

Location was perfect!
There was no wifi (or at least, there was no information about password) the front desk staff did not know anything as the apartment is privately owned.

The location is right at the water in the heart of Kailua-Kona - and our balcony had a view of the ocean. The unit was clean and comfortable and well-decorated. There is parking on-site, and a pool and barbecues available for use.
Be warned - if you arrive at the property prior to your scheduled check in time, there will not be anyone there who knows anything about your reservation, and will not even be able to confirm that you have one! This is a condominium complex, all of the units are rented out by independent entities. They will not answer questions or requests sent to Booking prior to your arrival, and no usable contact information will be printed on your confirmation email - and it is pay in advance! If you try to obtain additional information (such as 'do you have a record of my reservation'), the 'front desk' staff will become openly hostile and mocking. It took me an hour on the line with Booking's customer service in Spain (who were as helpful as they could be), then with multiple property managers, before my reservation was even found, and finally multiple phone calls to the property ultimately ordering the clerk to give me the keys - only for her then to become begrudgingly cooperative and check me in. I do think that Booking should require reservations of this type to be clearly stated as such, and require the property managers to provide transparent contact information to avoid such issues.

Room rate was reasonable for the area.
Room was on a very busy street with lots of noisy traffic. Could not use the lanai for this reason.

lots of restaurants within 100 yds.
Ate at restaurants across the street (oceanfront)
Bed was adequate for sleep after traveling
Room was very small couldn’t turn around in bathroom. Expected more for that price.

The location is right in the middle of the tourist area. Beach across the street. Our balcony looked out on the ocean but most of the units face the pool and garden. The room was large and nicely decorated.
Noisy part of town.
