Fireside Inn By The Beach Boardwalk & Bowling

1 block to the beach and restaurants, a few minutes walk to downtown. Room was clean and bed was comfortable.

The room is smaller than more expensive hotels but we spent most of our time each day outdoors. The bed does have metal around the bed frame, so a bit noisy at times if you forget, even with slippers instead of shoes. There was no coffee pot or desk but there are cafes and restaurants nearby, other larger rooms may have more options.

Location location location. Across the street from boardwalk and beach, short walk to wharf and downtown. Very clean, if you have sensitivity, air out your room bc the cleaning scent is strong, they do a good job. Bed: mid to firm, ok. Pillows leave something to be desired, bring your own. Price is excellent, this is a low budget place trying hard and it shows. If you are a light sensitive sleeper, bring the mask. If you need the weight of a comforter, bring your own. Temps early April just fine for what was provided, I just didn't really feel it bc it was so lightweight. Plug in heater provided if you get chilly. AC also, a mini-split. Mini fridge and micro good. Bathroom updated, decent pressure, nothing fancy, all clean and serviceable. Overall, for the price, this place is great and I've already booked our next stay.

No in room coffee. That's really all I really missed. Note to all: this is Santa Cruz. You shouldn't be in this room too much!!! Sure, there's no bells and whistles here, but it's perfect for a budget beach and boardwalk vacay. Get out there, tire yourselves out, stumble back and crash hard, then do it again the next day!

Easy to find, free parking, easy/flexible check in, good location for access to the beach boardwalk and short walk to downtown areas.

Room was basic. No heating and very thin sheets, and bathroom window was broken, so we were cold - mentioned at reception but no help offered. Took a very long time for the shower to heat up with hot water, and we were only given one bath towel and a couple of smaller hand towels to share between the two of us.
