Set into the entrance is a Caithness slate slab engraved L.S. Lowry 1936 — a permanent tribute to the Manchester artist, who painted this very street during his Caithness holiday. You're on Bank Row, once the beating heart of what was the busiest herring port in Europe, and the site of the first daytime bombing in the UK, on 1st July 1940. Just around the corner lies Ebenezer Place — Guinness World Record holder for the world's shortest street, at 6 ft 9 in with a single door. The full story is told at the Wick Heritage Centre, a short walk away.
