We love San Clemente and have a long history with the area. This location was a new one for us and was ok. It is in a tight residential community about two miles south of the Pier and is accessed by a one-way loop road. A car is a necessity. The access to the beach is about a ten-minute walk downhill through the state beach parking area. The unit is one half of a duplex and parking was challenging at times with the neighbors in the other unit. The neighbors were fine. It is very vertical with the living space on the third floor. There was a housekeeping issue at the beginning, and the management company did issue a small refund for compensation.

The unit was very hot, even with fans going and windows open, the third floor stayed 10 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. When we arrived at 5:00 on the day of check-in, fans were going and the temp inside was 89 degrees. Even when the temperature cooled outside at night, it did not in the house. Both full baths are on the second floor with a half bath on the third floor, which was very inconvenient for the third-floor bedroom. There is a lot of wasted space between the third-floor bedroom and the half-bath, an ensuite bath for that bedroom is highly recommended. From all indications, I got the impression that this was a brand-new rental property after a small remodel and it showed. There was a large hole cut out of the sheetrock by the entry with wires hanging out. The trim in the upstairs bedroom was incomplete. Price tags and sales tags were left on items that were supposed to be decorative. Not that any of that is bad, it just shows a lack of attention to detail. It's a beach house and some type of water container/hose arrangement to rinse sandy feet would have been appreciated rather than tracking it into the house. In the listing there is no mention of beach chairs, so we brought ours with us. There are chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and more in the garage. They are charging top dollar for this rental which would be fine if the value was there, it is not.
