About this apartment rental
Welcome to The Frank โ a beautifully refurbished 2-bedroom apartment in the heart of Buxton, the Peak District's celebrated spa town. Sleep in style in the king-size four-poster bed, unwind in contemporary surroundings, and step outside to rolling hills, independent shops, and centuries of history. Superfast WiFi, free parking, and everything you need for a seamless stay โ whether you're exploring the outdoors, soaking up the culture, or simply slowing down.
The Space:
This thoughtfully refurbished apartment blends modern comfort with characterful touches to create a space that feels special from the moment you arrive. The Frank is set within Hartington Terrace, a handsome period row on a quiet residential street.
The main bedroom is the centrepiece โ a bright room with a striking king-size four-poster bed that makes every night feel like an occasion. The second bedroom features a comfortable double bed and is equally well-appointed, perfect for groups of friends or family.
The bathroom is finished to a high standard with an over-bath shower and quality fittings throughout. The living area is a bright, welcoming space designed for relaxing after a day in the peaks, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook at home if you'd rather skip the restaurants (though Buxton has plenty of great ones).
Superfast 900Mb WiFi keeps you connected whether you're streaming, working remotely, or planning the next day's adventure. Free on-site parking means no hunting for spaces when you arrive โ just pull up, unpack, and settle in.
Guest Access:
You'll have the entire apartment to yourselves โ both bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living space are exclusively yours throughout your stay.
The building has a shared entrance, and from there you have your own private space. Free parking for one car is included, so there's no need to worry about permits or pay-and-display. Further free parking is available on-street within a short walk.
The Neighborhood:
The Frank sits on a quiet residential street in Higher Buxton, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. It's the kind of neighbourhood where you're close to everything but away from the bustle โ perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.
Buxton itself is one of England's finest spa towns, famous for its natural thermal springs, Georgian and Victorian architecture, and its position as the gateway to the Peak District National Park. The beautifully restored Crescent, the Pavilion Gardens, and Buxton Opera House are all within easy walking distance.
For day-to-day essentials, Sainsbury's Local and Morrisons Daily are both less than a 7-minute walk away, with a Tesco Express just a little further. You'll also find independent cafรฉs, pubs, restaurants, and shops in the town centre โ try the Derbyshire oatcakes if you haven't before!
The weekly market runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the Market Place, with local produce and specialist stalls. For something sweet, there's an artisan chocolatier in town and the Pavilion Gardens gift shop stocks locally-made treats.
Buxton Opera House is just a short walk away and well worth checking what's on before you visit. It's a stunning Edwardian theatre designed by Frank Matcham, putting on around 450 shows a year โ everything from stand-up comedy and musicals to drama, opera, dance, live music, and a much-loved annual pantomime. Recent years have seen touring acts like Jason Manford, Phil Wang, Jools Holland, Dylan Moran, and Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, alongside community productions of Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar. It's also home to the Buxton International Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival each summer.
Getting Around:
The Frank comes with free parking, so if you're arriving by car you can leave it on the doorstep and explore Buxton on foot โ the town centre, shops, and most attractions are all walkable.
Buxton railway station is around a 10-minute walk away. Direct trains run to Manchester Piccadilly roughly every hour, taking about an hour โ it's a scenic journey through the Peak District and one of the prettiest rail routes in the country. Manchester Airport is around 90 minutes by train with one change.
Local buses connect Buxton with villages and towns across the Peak District. The 62 (Peak Pathfinder) runs to Castleton via Mam Tor and Edale โ it's one of the most scenic bus routes in England and a brilliant way to see the national park without driving. The TransPeak service links Buxton with Bakewell, Matlock, and Derby. Day tickets are available and very reasonably priced.
For exploring further afield by car, Chatsworth House is about 30 minutes' drive, Bakewell around 20 minutes, and the Monsal Trail (a traffic-free walking and cycling route along a former railway line) is easily reached from several points nearby.
Other Things to Note:
The Frank is set within Hartington Terrace, a period building with a shared entrance hall โ from there, the apartment is entirely your own private space. There are three steps up to our main entrance, and the apartment is on the second floor (via a door on the first floor landing).
Buxton sits at over 1,000 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest market towns in England. The weather can change quickly up here, so we'd recommend packing layers and waterproofs even in summer โ you'll be glad of them on the hills.
If you're here for the outdoors, Solomon's Temple and Grin Low Woods are less than a 30 minute walk from the door. Poole's Cavern (a stunning underground limestone cave) and Go Ape at Grin Low are also nearby for days when you want something different. Don't miss Buxton Crescent's thermal spa for a proper treat after a long walk.
Grab a free cup of Buxton's famous spa water from St Ann's Well โ the town has been a destination for its natural springs for centuries.
The apartment is named after Frank Soo, who was born in Buxton in 1914. Frank was a pioneering footballer โ the first player of Chinese heritage to play in the English Football League and the first player of Asian descent to represent England. He played over 200 games for Stoke City alongside Stanley Matthews, captained the club, and went on to coach across Europe, including the Norwegian national team at the 1952 Olympics. He was inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame in 2024.
