Town: Resting next to the River Eden is the quaint village of Langwathby, Cumbria. With the Lake District National Park to the west and North Pennines to the east, Langwathby is an excellent base for a walking holiday. A large village green occupies the centre of the picturesque village, bordered by cottages, farmhouses and a traditional pub, the Shepherd's Inn. There is also a shop & Post Office, a village hall, and sitting next to the green is St Peter's church, built in 1718, with some parts of interior dating back to medieval times. Now home to the Brief Encounter Café, Langwathby Station offers great links to nearby towns and cities along the Carlisle to Settle Railway, with spectacular views of remote, scenic regions of England. Penrith is a busier town in Cumbria's Eden Valley and just a short journey away, with the large 14th century Penrith Castle set on a grassy meadow, Penrith Golf Club, a local history museum, as well as plenty of eateries and shops to enjoy. Sitting on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater, Pooley Bridge is home to traditional inns and lovely tearooms, with access to numerous walks or take a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown. To the north of Langwathby lies Carlisle, a historic city with a beautiful cathedral, castle and the popular Tullie House Museum And Art Gallery. Langwathby is a peaceful holiday base within easy reach of wonderful attractions.
