Extremely disappointed with our experience with this host and property. Our key issues were cleanliness, access and dishonesty from the host. The house was difficult to find and is the upstairs flat around the back via a narrow path with many steps into the house. This was not clear when booking and proved challenging as one of our group had access needs, this meant we had to cut our stay short to be able to manage and find somewhere more accessible. The property was not left very clean (see photos of examples) and the smoke alarm battery needed replacing and beeped consistently. The property smelt musty and unclean. There was lots of open food in the cupboard and freezer as if someone lived there when not rented out. The double bed was extremely uncomfortable and you can hear the springs with every move. The bathroom is tiny with black mould on the roof, damp smell and no extractor fan. We were only left one and a half rolls of toilet paper for four people who had planned to stay for three nights and had to purchase our own. We could hear very concerning loud yelling and swearing from the neighbouring wall throughout our stay. Upon initial contact about our issues the host appeared to be helpful and understanding and agreed to refund us for the time in the property we would not stay. Unfortunately after our stay he changed his mind and accidentally sent us messages he intended for booking.com saying he would not refund us. We contacted customer service and they informed us that the host refused to provide a refund (we were only asking for the one night we didn’t stay due to the access issues impacting our trip) despite their advocacy for us and provided us a voucher to acknowledge how poor the experience was. We had hoped to be able to leave a positive review about the host’s understanding but unfortunately his lies have left us no choice. We cannot recommend this property or host to others after our poor experience.
