祇園 金瓢

We loved the design of the home. It has a lot of old world charm and felt very special. The location was very good. There are a couple of train stations, convenience stores, a supermarket, and a cute little coffee shop within a short walk. The area is quiet and peaceful. The staff were very kind and responsive. The place was well-maintained and clean. We loved that they had a washer and dryer too.

The only downside was that there wasn’t a comfortable place to just relax, like a small sofa or soft chair. There is a table with several chairs upstairs, but the chairs aren’t very comfortable for lounging. We were so busy doing things around Kyoto during the day, though, it didn’t matter all that much. Still, it would be an improvement to have something other than your futon to comfortably stretch out on.

Everything was great! The owner lives right next door, so they’re able to respond to any requests. Check in was a breeze. Facilities were updated and modern. We stayed one night at the end of Nov, and all 3 air conditioners kept the house warm. Futons were incredibly comfortable because they laid down two layers. We had a bottle of their Kinpyo branded sake for ¥700 yen - and we could choose our sake cup (such a cute touch!). You really feel the history of Kyoto in this machiya. We stayed at a modern hotel close by for a few nights, but the room was tiny. We were really able to spread out in Kinpyo. My 6 yr old son loved the experience! He couldn’t even wake up in the morning bc the futon was so comfortable.

Wearing socks going up and down the stairs could be slippery.
