Modern 2-Bed Apartment in York City Centre - Steps from Minster and Shambles

Excellent location. Hosts very helpful. Modern with 2 showers which we appreciate.

Location was great and nice size rooms.

The en suite shower cubicle was awful. Needed a good scrub. Very basic facilities too.

The property location was great, but it was very noisy @ night, even after shutting the windows

It was very basic, not homely, there needs to be some maintenance done in the flat, the toilet seat in the main bathroom was awful all wobbly…there needs to be bath mats in the bathrooms. The cupboard door in the kitchen needs to be mended, could have done with more than one tea towel & some kitchen roll. The extractor fans for both bathrooms so high up you had to get a chair to turn them on. Cleanliness not that good. The main bathroom when you have a shower it leaks through needs some silicone work.

The location was very central (although it was on a dodgy alley in a not particularly nice building and you had to walk across the roof outside to get from the stairs to the flat). We needed extra toilet rolls as not enough had been provided and the hosts brought some round that morning. The crisp white bedding was lovely quality. You can see the river from the kitchen window.

It really needs a thorough deep clean. The toothbrush holders were covered in someone else's old dried up toothpaste, which made me question the hygiene of everything and really showed a lack of respect for guests. The toilet brush holder was full of dirty water and my daughter accidentally knocked it over so we had to go out and buy Dettol to clean it up with. I understand that the flat is cheap but that doesn't make it ok not to clean properly before guests arrive. It also felt like everything was done in the cheapest way possible (apart from the bedding which was nice quality). It seemed like they had spent the bare minimum on every single item and therefore the flat was not comfortable or welcoming. It's fine for a place to crash at night but you wouldn't really want to spend the evening on the hard sofa in the kitchen. I noticed that a review on the other platform three months ago suggested some minor things to make it more comfortable, such as a hook and a mirror, but these haven't been addressed. It wouldn't be difficult or expensive to make such small improvements. It just felt like the hosts don't respect their guests. There was a ripped bin bag of rubbish outside the flat when we arrived and it wasn't collected the whole time we were there. Instead of an absorbent bath mat they provided one of those rubber non-slip ones with holes in so when you get out the shower the bathroom floor gets soaking wet. Also it says that kitchen basics like salt, pepper and oil are provided but they were not. The hosts/landlords rent out several properties in York so this is a proper business, not someone renting out their home for a little extra cash. Which is why I feel ok about giving this honest review. I realise now why it was cheap and I've learned my lesson.
