Lille O Centre

The directions were . . . a bit obscure, likely because my French is faulty. Below is what I wish that I had been told in English. I offer it for future guests. The street door of 34, rue de Roubaix, is royal blue. It is on the street-side nearer the Lille Flandres railway station. With the street at your back, to the left of the door, on the jamb, are various panels. To the right of the door, and several steps distant, is a rain-gutter downpipe. Attached to that downpipe is a lockbox. The four digits to open it : (xxxx). A key-ring with four keys is inside. Three of the keys are of standard format. One is a fob in the shape of a disc. Press the fob flat against the door-jamb panel nearest the door. You will hear a buzz. This signals that two electrically controlled latches are released. One latch is that of the street door. The other is that of a metal-and-glass door several steps along a broad corridor inside the building. The corridor runs perpendicular to the street. The metal-and-glass internal door is athwart the corridor. Closing the street door behind you, go briskly forward. Open the internal door before the buzz stops and the internal door is again latched. Another few steps along the corridor behind the internal door is a small courtyard. Walk a step or two into the courtyard and look to your left. Immediately to your left is a cylindrical tower that houses the stairs to the flat. Go back inside the corridor. As you look into the courtyard, to your left in the corridor wall is a door into the tower. The door is not locked. Enter the tower. Climb three flights of stairs to the top landing. Enter the corridor that opens from the top landing. The corridor runs perpendicular to the street. Go to the far end of the corridor. Directly in front of you at the end of the corridor is the door to your lodging. Use of the standard-format keys to gain access to your lodging and to let yourself out of the building : Trial and error.

A heat-wave made the lodging a sweatbox. The first night was spent without an electric fan. Very unpleasant ! Bring sachets of powdered coffee, tea-bags, and other staples. The cupboards are minimally stocked.

L'emplacement et la qualité du couchage et des équipements.

C'est au 3eme étage sans ascenseur et avec un escalier en colimaçon.

Good location

Not appropriate for tourists when it’s on the 3rd floor up extremely windy stairs. Someone was hoovering at 7.30am in the hallway
