Mashi's Villa

The owner was very nice.

The aircon was not really all that cold.

A real home stay with a lovely family. Close to everything, but on a quiet street away from the main road. Big room, very clean facilities. Home cooked meals were my favorite! Also did a tuk tuk ride to the Sacred City of Pollonnaruwa. Had a great stay, recommend!

The hosts are very kind and welcoming people, which we truly appreciated during our stay. The room is a convenient option for a large family, as it has three double beds. The air conditioning works perfectly, and hot water is available, making the stay more pleasant. Breakfast was included, although it was quite basic.

The number and variety of insects in the room made us feel quite uncomfortable and significantly affected our overall experience. There were spiders, large ants, beetles, and earwigs, among others. I even found a large ant on my bed, which I fortunately spotted just before going to sleep. Personally, I couldn’t sleep because of the presence of so many insects, and I was also worried that one of them might bite or sting my children. I believe that more frequent pest control would make a big difference and help guests feel more comfortable and at ease. Additionally, the mosquito nets should be washed regularly, not just the bedsheets. We had to move them because some insects had gotten inside, and when we did, a large amount of dust fell onto the beds. Another area for improvement is the lack of furniture or storage space for personal belongings. Since the room is intended for a large family, it’s reasonable to expect that each person will have their own suitcase. However, there was nowhere to put our luggage except on the floor, which was even more uncomfortable given the presence of insects. In terms of comfort, only a bedsheet is provided to cover yourself while sleeping, with no additional blanket or comforter. We were also given only four towels despite being a group of six. These are basic details that should be taken into consideration when preparing a room for that number of guests. Additionally, the Wi-Fi signal was quite weak in the room, which made the connection somewhat slow. Considering that there are more affordable accommodation options in the area, I feel that, for the price we paid, a little more attention could be given to certain details that would significantly improve the overall guest experience. The hosts are genuinely lovely people, and that is something we appreciate. However, there are basic aspects of cleanliness, maintenance, and comfort that, from a guest’s perspective, should not be overlooked.
