The place was conveniently located near the old town — a brief walk along the river allowed a nice entry into the city. Our apartment 2 was unfortunately facing the road. Although the windows shielded off most of the traffic, keeping windows open at night was not possible, due to the road noise. The house itself was nicely decorated.
The location facing the road was one thing and could have been acceptable. However, the walls were not soundproof and we could hear the people next door talking late at night. The host “fixed” soundproofing by adding layers of foam between two room doors, which feels like an unusual make-shift solution. People also left and returned to this building at unusual hours, being noisy etc.
More importantly though, the apartment was very dirty upon arrival. The floors were extremely dirty, not even hoovered, with small pebbles and sand on the floor, and certainly not mopped in a while. There was a thick layer of dust on most surfaces and kitchen units, and especially worse behind the kitchen appliances. The fridge and microwave were visibly dirtied with food remains, which is unsanitary. There is no extraction fan, and I wouldn’t recommend cooking in this place, given that the kitchen faces the bed. It is a tea kitchen, at best.
The toilet wasn’t cleaned either, the shower screen scaly and covered with a red bacteria residue. The shower head and toilet seat were wonky/ not properly installed, etc., so this tainted our stay quite a bit.
I notified the host and although he did offer sending someone to clean, that would have meant adjusting our own plans, which we weren’t willing to. We only stayed two nights and didn’t want to have people entering our room with our possessions all on display, nor oversee any cleaning process, which would have been necessary in this case, as it is not a hotel and doesn’t have any reception or oversight.
I think this place suits people with very modest expectations — as of now, the price feels currently too high for what it is. Basic cleanliness isn’t something I want to be pointing out in any accommodation.
