Furnished Loft Style Apartment in Southend

The codes for the front door of the building and door to the apartment were provided in advance, so there was no issue with figuring out how to get in. I liked that a Whole Foods, CVS, bars and restaurants were close by, and that there were laundry facilities on the property. The place was tidy and there was a full kitchen, fully stocked. We did need to buy toilet paper and scott towel, but there were towels provided. The hot water worked.

The layout of the space was strange. You walk downstairs to the kitchen, living & dining room and 1st bedroom, and down more stairs to the bathroom and 2nd bedroom. The place feels like student accommodation and the walls are scuffed up like it could have done with some maintenance. Despite booking.com indicating that there are no further charges after paying on their website, I was required to pay a $250 refundable security deposit (not sure if it has been returned as of yet), and $35 for an early check in at 2pm, which is very late for a check-in (which was 4pm; while check out was at 11am). I also had to complete a check in form - like I was living in student accommodation. Note: the couch had some stains on it. I refused to sit on certain parts of it. It is also a strange neighborhood - on one hand, there is a homeless shelter 1 block away and the arts district; but in the other direction, there is a CVS, Whole Foods and bars and restaurants close by.

The apartment was spacious and comfortable.The team was very good in responding to our requests and we really appreciate it. More of the kitchen appliances are spotless and clean.

Both the beds in the apartment no:517 was far too soft and it wasn’t very ideal. I put a flat pillow to support my back and that helped a little and sleeping on the side of the bed is dangerous. There were rugs around the apartment, but be careful in case you trip up because of the slighted rolled up carpet. The shower in the bathroom was outdated. The whole apartment had two mirrors in the bathroom when one can be in the bedroom or elsewhere. It is hard to wait for someone to finish the bathroom each day. The lounge coffee table was warped. The kitchen had incomplete set of crockery. The pots and pans looked well used and non- stick . There must be an alternative to use for healthier cooking than having teflon pans. There was no hand towel and we stayed for 5 nights and we got one set of towels until we ask for another set and the team was very good. To compare with other accommodation there was no complimentary beverage which was a bit disappointing. Some of the bedsheets were old and probably needed replacement. The toiletries given to us look outdated and can be replaced with more professional looking ones that look more appealing.

Good location, quiet, good amenities around it, including a Whole Foods and varied restaurants. Short walk to T. Comfortable living area.

Bathroom needs some money spent on it. While clean, it looked a little grimy due to need for some work. Also, there was limited bathroom products (shower gel, shampoo, etc). Lastly, bed in downstairs bedroom needs to be replaced-very soft and it sags.
