Everything is newly refurbished, modern and clean. Showers have shower gel provided, and there are hairdryers in the female bathroom. Each bed has a couple of sockets and a light. There is a coin-operated laundry, which is handy.
The owner will surely react with aggressive comments, so here is my DISCLAIMER: yes, I was aware of most of these things in advance, BUT that's not the point of my criticism! I am posting these comments as improvement suggestions which would make your guests happier.
- the check-in: reception was supposed to be open until 23 o'clock on Saturday. I arrived at 21.30; however, there was nobody. After I rang the bell a couple of times, there was an annoyed male voice from the speaker that told me to check my email with self check-in instructions. I was not aware of any email, as it arrived just about a couple of hours before when I was on a flight. Luckily, my phone had a few per cent of battery left, so I managed. But it could be difficult for someone without internet access!
- oh, the triple bunks, the plague of Edinburgh...! You can only sit on the top one, but you are assigned a specific bed number, so you cannot choose. Luckily, I got the middle one, because the lower one is truly horrible.
- a female dorm would be nice. I ended up in a dorm with 5 men, which made me feel quite uncomfortable. If keeping mixed dorms, at least curtains would be nice. The beds are uncomfortably close to each other.
- the rooms are tiny! There's nothing except the beds, not even a hook for your jacket. Luckily, I was not travelling with big luggage this time, as there was absolutely no space for it. I barely found a tiny spot for my boots.
- the lockers are OUTSIDE in the corridor, and mine was locked/already occupied? Also, they are tiny, barely enough for a daypack. You cannot fit a suitcase or a big backpack inside. Even with a winter coat and winter boots, it would be challenging.

This place is amazing! I can't believe how clean and simple to use it is for the price! The owners are really nice and helpful and I was able to park my LWB VW van no problem! Its FAB!

The hostel is really close to the city center.
I think if you are a budget traveler is a good option
I stayed in the dormitory with 12 beds
The room is really crowded and the beds are too close to each other, is not even possible to sit on it (I think this is possible only on the top one). The lowest bed is basically on the floor, so you sleep with people's shoes in the face. It could have been only 1 stair to reach the middle and the top bed, but they put 2 stairs, one for each; in that way takes out even more space from the lower bed.
Moreover, the place offers only such small lockers, which doesn't make sense to me since it is a backpackers hostel.

Staff were super helpful and my bed was comfy and smelled clean.
The shower water was a bit too cold for my taste and during the night it felt a bit suffocating, because of the lack of oxygen in the room. Wi-fi was close to unusable.

The place exceeded my expectations. It was clean and super tidy. Beds were comfortable and staff were more than helpful with all my enquiries and gave us great recommendations and directions to places in the city.

Very clean and friendly staff
Maybe better instructions to guests on packing and unpacking outside of rooms , perhaps better ventilation inside rooms ?

Location was OK,
Not too far city centre.
Quite a few codes to remember for the doors,
I left my key in the room and went outside, the staff would not let me back in ,said" I have to be a guest here.
I only visited to sleep the night there before departing at the morning, was not looking to go elsewhere.
Apart from, rest OK.

Very bad and congested. 12 Bunk beds in such a small room. No air conditioner. No staff after 10 pm at night and upto 10 am in d morning.
No idea what is served in kitchen. It seems always closed. Location is around 12 minutes walk to Leith.
Bus stop is closely though but buses take about 15-20 minutes to come.
No space. Bad toilets. No staff to help. The two women were fantastic though to help but they seem overloaded with work.
Location is a bit inside and not in a buzzing place.

Not an amazing atmosphere and wouldn’t stay here if you were looking to meet folks. No couches or chill out space was a bit disappointing also

We had a whole 12 bed room booked for our group of 10 - it was great value and exactly what we needed. The shower and bathroom are okay.
It's quite far from the city center, and there aren't many pubs or restaurants nearby.
The lady who checked us in (we arrived around 9:30 PM) was a bit unusual and made it clear that we had arrived rather late — she mentioned she would have preferred to go home earlier. Didn't really felt welcomed.
We couldn't open any windows as they were locked, which wasn't ideal with 11 people sharing one room.

Easy to find. Nice friendly staff, specially Marilyn she’s always ready to help , really friendly & has a lot of knowledge of the tourist attractions & how to get there.
Not much. Kitchen maybe a little small

The price for a last minute booking - £35 per bed in 9 bed dormitory - was the cheapest in town, the hostels in Edinburgh city centre wanted £55- £70 per bed! The sheets were clean and the place in general seemed to be well looked after.
EDIT: A reply to the hostels reply. Posting it here as the negative section has reached it's character limit.
- No, I did not try to arrive "very early". I booked the accommodation in the afternoon, the same day at about 3pm, said that my arrival time will be between 17:00-18:00 hours but actually arrived just 7pm as the train I originally intended to take was cancelled. All this is traceable and proof-able, so don't lie!
- "Which is unfortunate as you wouldn’t have then verbally abused our staff upon arrival." (c)
This is just a blatant lie! I was never rude or abusive to anyone at the hostel, in fact i spoke very little as the communication with the reception lady was so unpleasant.
She opened the door when I rang, immediately turned her back to me - what's your name? I paused because it is long and foreign so she went one octave up - WHAT'S YOUR NAME?? To which I said - do you want to see my ID? Yes, yes, give me your ID! I asked what the WiFi password was and she said it is all in that email we sent you! This is how it went.
So please do not believe ANYTHING this hostel (or the reception lady) has responded to other guests reviews because it is a BLATANT LIE which I just experienced myself first hand! Absolutely shocking that a business would behave like that!
The Location. It is well away from city centre, 30 minute walk along a busy road and then trough a residential area. Do not attempt this, if you have heavy luggage and/or the weather is very hot (like yesterday). And certainly don't walk back after a late night out as it is not safe.
The Staff. I encountered only one staff member - a very grumpy and unpleasant lady who checked me in and was abrupt and annoyed with me the minute I stepped on to premises. If you read responses this hostel leaves to less than a positive reviews, this is what you get in person as well. And for no reason, I wasn't drunk or wanting to check in too early/too late as they have said other reviewers were, simply an attitude problem and in my opinion people like that should not be in hospitality industry.
The Room. You get assigned a bed, get the top bunk, if you can as then at least you will be able to sit up in bed which is not possible on the middle and bottom bed. Room way too small for 3x3 level bunk beds, very claustrophobic and no privacy whatsoever. On occasion I have stayed in this type of accommodation before but don't remember being quite so close to other people, the space between the beds is just enough for one person to turn around. Ok to crash for one night but would not stay there again or recommend it to others.
The Communication. The lady at the reception (there is no reception area as such, just a little room by the entrance with a washing machine) kept on referring to email they allegedly have sent me with all the information, needs to realize that a lot of travelers don't check their emails while travelling.
The Facilities. No communal space apart from the kitchen.
All in all my suggestion would be - stay elsewhere, if possible.

The hostel is super clean and peaceful. It isn't a party hostel. I was able to sleep properly. The bath and the bedding is cleaned regularly. I asked and got all the help needed. Ty to hostel manager, she is amazing and friendly.

Wifi worked, bed very comfortable, showers were clean and hot. There are laundry facilities available and the kitchen had everything we needed to store food and eat. There is a filtered water station for drinking water and lockers for each guest to store their things securely.
This place is adequate and was quite clean. I would recommend bringing a wall plug to charge your phone, prepare your breakfast the night before (see dislikes section), and do not arrive early as there were no staff there in the morning when I arrived. The address is number 62, just off the street down a little entryway. You can use Edinburgh city buses for £5 max per day with a bank card and there are lots of buses nearby.
Some warnings for future visitors: the cooking facilities were turned off at 10pm and when we left the next day about 9am, nobody had returned yet to turn them back on, although we were told someone would do so at 7am. The bathrooms ran very low on toilet paper. The usb sockets and light at my bed didn't work. My friend requested a middle bunk and this was not accommodated. We were told that someone changed the check-in book but offered no solution unfortunately.

The accommodation is clean and as described.
The drains in the accommodation work very poorly. This means that showers can only be taken for a very short time. The drains at the washbasins also work very slowly.

- Good value for money in a good location near the Balfour Street tramline stop.
- Very helpful and friendly staff.
- Excellent breakfast at Bonnington Brunch around the corner (280 Bonnington Road).
- Only area out of room could sit in was the kitchen other than a few seats in the corrider.
- I arrived early and managed to leave my bag as a manager was there, but it would have been tricky if he hadn't. It's literally closed until 4pm.

I was nervous about needing a hostel stay during house repairs, but it was clean, safe, and had every facility and I actually enjoyed it. Family run with Jamie the owner being very friendly and helpful but star of the show was Marilyn,a very hard working capable friendly lady who helped with anything and truly made my stay like sleeping over at a friends house. Great asset to a comfy place

Good location with bus stop near the hostel, so that the city is reachable within 20 minutes. Nice attentive staff.
Not a very social atmosphere in the common room. For socializing choose something different.
The power in the kitchen gets unlocked at 9am by the staff, which was a bit late for me. One morning nobody was there to unlock, so I had to leave without breakfast.

My son and me stayed in a clean mixed dorm with 12 bunk beds. Clean white sheets and duvet. With comfortable beds Managed by a lovely lady who was friendly. The kitchen facilities are clean and tidy. Provide use of the kitchen facilities for own food. I met some people who I will keep in touch with in the future. Friendly staff and guests. Quite area in a residential area not far from the city centre. Or Leith walk just a number 11 in to town for £2. The hostel rental for towels. Phone charger points in each bunk. The hostel asks guests to be quiet and considerate about other guests and local residents. As a hotel away from the tourist centre of Edinburgh it was a blessing for the peace this place offered. I would stay here anytime I'm in Edinburgh for £50 per night it's a bargain. Thanks to the manager Marilyn for such a lovely stay.
My only complaint was the uncontrollable aspect of other guests. The manager did her best to quiet them when disturbed other people. But in the dorms some people think it's appropriate to do their hair and makeup. full fragrance in a dorm of 12 with no window open. @3am. On a separate note, I was looking forward to watching the darts championship at the hostel and there's no TV..but it didn't affect me having a

Elektronický vstup do budovy pomocí pinu.
