Secluded Hostel near to some great walks

If you want seclusion, this is the spot for you. The Hostel is reached via some quiet country roads before reaching a car park area. It is from here that a gate is driven through before a 2-3 mile drive along a decent but rough surfaced track is encountered which takes you almost to the end of Ennerdale. We managed to take the last parking spot, but to be fair, if full, there seemed to be some room on the track just outside the car park entrance. The Hostel is the smallest YHA I have stopped in to date so there was not quite so much room for lounge facilities but everything was clean and inviting. The kitchen was a little smaller than normal but everything was provided. The staff were friendly and the bedroom and showers were warm and comfortable.

It was confusing arriving at night to find the gate, which apparantly is accessed via a passcode, was wide open. There were no clear signs to the YHA and in pitch darkness, it was hard to determine if we were on the right path.

Nice hostel in beautiful location

Nice hostel with ample parking in a remote and beautiful locale. We found the family room nice and well sized. The bunk beds were fine. Kitchen was usable and standard for a YHA. Nice assortment of other guests. Staff were great - we didn’t have any issues another review mentioned (we had considered not staying based on that but are glad we did choose Ennerdale)

Long way to get there on very tight one lanes, and gravel last miles - but that ads to the uniqueness. The toilet in the family room is attached but very narrow with shower separate. Towels are an extra fee which seems silly.

Beautiful location

Excellent location, friendly staff, good breakfast and a perfect morning watching a red squirrel playing around in the tree right outside the back door. Will definitely return

Good Location

Great Location, and Friendly staff, specifically 2 Steves from Yorkshire!

The bathroom water pressure and hot water could be better. The rooms air circulation could be better, as the rooms are small with 6 people in. Coffee and tea always were free in other hostels, could be same in this one as well. We booked late for easter holidays, and the price was high for a YHA hostel; need to book in advance to get the reasonable price for hostel.

Perfect remote retreat with fab views and friendly staff.

I loved how relaxing and peaceful the hostel is. Fabulous views and scenery and lots of birds. The sound of the river and non-existent light polution made for a perfect getaway. Friendly staff and a bargain meal & dessert.
