Wood Palace Ella

Prachtige locatie op een berg met uitzicht over een vallei. De jungle onder je balkon. We kregen een kamer (de houten kamer onder in de vallei). Maar door gebrek aan airco en omdat we een ziek kind bij ons hadden, wilden we een andere kamer. We waren al een alternatief aan het zoeken, toen bleek dat ze nog een andere meerpersoonskamer beschikbaar hadden met airco en dompelbad op het balkon. Tegen een meerprijs kregen we die kamer. Die was schoon, cool en het uitzicht was geweldig. De familie staat voor je klaar; ontbijt of even halen en brengen naar de stad met de eigen tuctuc.

Verwacht geen hotelervaring. Wel een geweldige ongelooflijk mooie omgeving.

The experience itself is absolutely amazing. If you love nature, breathtaking views, peace and quiet, and monkeys visiting your balcony, this place is very special. It feels remote, authentic and far away from the crowds. I would give the experience 10/10. If you are looking for luxury brands, polished 5-star service and being pampered, this is probably not the place for you — but if you value nature and atmosphere, you will love it.

The hotel advertises itself as 5-star, which in my opinion is very misleading. In terms of facilities and hotel standards, it is nowhere near a traditional 5-star property. That said, the star rating almost doesn’t matter here because the experience is what makes the place special. Also, the location is quite isolated, so you will normally need a tuk-tuk to get to Ella.

The view from the room is one of a kind. Never seen something like it. U feel in the center of the jungle.

1. Way too many steep stairs. About 30 of them! 2. Staff is limited only to two people (mother and son) - very friendly but not great with english. Difficult to reach sometimes given they live on top of the 30 stairs and u r at the bottom. Whatsapp only way of communication. If internet is not working like our first night then u cant reach them. 3. Bugs! Huge issue given room is open from some areas so constantly bugs fly in. Need to always sleep woth mosquito net which is provided. 4. No food options available except breakfast. Breakfast cooked is also very sub standard. We barely ate there but felt bad for the mother who had cooked it. No professional chef! 5. Shower problems!! Either water is very hot or very cold. They do not have a mixer in their plumbing so taking a shower is very difficult especially for kids.
