We LOVED EVERYTHING!!! This luxury Ryokan with an onsen spa was heavenly and unlike any place we have ever stayed largely due to the warm and friendly staff who went above and beyond. Ni was absolutely wonderful as was Tomoko and Kohe. They along with the rest of the staff made a birthday surprise for my mom that was beyond anything we could've expected. The surprise was cleverly with our spa reservation and when we returned there was a happy birthday sign and balloons, a beautiful cake topped with fruit and tempered chocolate decorations, sake, plum wine, tea, and a dried fruit and nut tray (since we had someone in our party allergic to dairy and eggs.. so incredibly thoughtful). They even had a birthday card illustrated and signed by the staff! Tomoko served everything to us. We were moved to tears of joy. It made the already special time even more memorable. We will only stay here when we visit Osaka!!! The room is huge with its own onsen soak tub inside it, but we never used it because of the amazing spa that we soaked in every evening (timed 2-hour reservations)!! We stayed on the first floor. There is a lovely little full kitchen tucked in the back and luxury coffee and tea makers. Lots of lovely prepackaged amenities in the the bathroom drawers under the vanity sinks. I was travelling with my mom and sister but this is a perfect place for a couples retreat, honeymoon or anniversary.. or girls trip! This place is also within walking distance of everything! Dotonbori, wonderful bars and restaurants, Nishiki market, temples and shrines, shopping. Go visit our favorite bar, Bar Buddy and say hi to Kevin for us! We hope anyone else staying at Takenoya will enjoy and appreciate it as we did! We can't recommend this Ryokan enough but also wish we could keep it a secret.

There is NOTHING that we didn't like, but thought we'd give some minor warnings for others: 1. The beds are very firm but that is every bed in Japan! 2. The stairs are very steep but we encountered steeper stairs throughout Japan.. it is a traditional Ryokan so you will need to use the stairs. However, the staff took up our bags for us which I felt bad for because one of them was very heavy! Try to pack light if you can. 3. The room is also one giant room.. no walls separating the two bedroom areas. Fine for us and a single couple but may not be ideal for two couples or a family of 4.

Outstanding in all possible ways. Dinner was exceptionally good.

We were close to the station and near the main areas . Perfectly situated . Loved having a washing machine to wash our clothes ( great when you traveling )
