The room wasn’t clean. The staff, though nice, couldn’t stop the all night parties in the pool beside our room. Like 10pm to 6am. Security was sent a couple times and they quieted down for a bit, but because they were drunk, they just carried on. The grounds are beautiful and I had stayed there previously last year, but the rooms have deteriorated. We had a private room.

Clean room but without house keeping throughout my one week's stay. Breakfast was fantastic and varied. Property was very clean though busy with loads and loads of guests. Amanda was very helpful to me. Location was a few minutes walk to the tram going to Christ the Redeemer Statue. Local transport bus station was also nearby. Overall great value for money. Kudos to the staff.

This is a beautiful restored hostel, but as the same with hostel average cleanliness is not a priority even if you are in a private room. Specialy my room had a vintage door not sealing the frame, allowing all kind of mosquitoes get in to the room, not a pleasant night!

I extended my stay because I really like the breakfast and the location is beautiful. But maintenance and cleaning is bad. We need to go to the reception to ask if someone can empty the toilet bins or for new toilet paper. They didn't properly clean the room since at least Tuesday. One of the locks of the shower is broken so people smash the door to close it, which is quit annoying when you’re trying to sleep or still asleep. But the shower with a functioning lock has low water pressure due of the built up chalk in the shower head. So.. The airconditioning is not clean so I've caught a cold (nasal congestion and a sore throat) after the first night. Really wished there was a possibility to open a window with all the deodrant and other spray products my roommates use.

The building itself is a very interesting piece of historic architecture that has been modernized to house this hotel/hostel-complex. I especially loved the breakfast buffet, close to the pool area which invites you to chill during the day but you can also get some remote-work done in the quiet areas with excellent wifi. Last nut not least, the staff is very welcoming and helpful! It's been an absolute pleasure! Muito obrigado!

Amazing location and wonderful breakfast. A gem away from the buzz and stress of the city that is also within walking distance from the Cosme Velho station heading to Christ the redeemer. Check-in was extremely slow - it took us more than one hour to get our room - but I guess it was due to the high season situation. I would definitely stay here again! Totally recommend it.

It’s was the worst experience ever staying at this hostel. It’s a place run by inexperienced staff, rude to the point of insulting the guests, offering bad quality food, bkfast with rotten fruits, no daily cleaning in the rooms, no face towels or soap in the washing basin. Fire alarm went off 5 times during the night till 4 am. Pool is used by non guests, rain water comes inside the room, no restaurants or shops nearby. Avoid this place !

I would recommend Jo&Joe for your stay in Rio if the purpose of your visit is to see Christ the Redeemer since this place is steps away from the train that takes you to see the Christ. The staff was super friendly and helpful, always guiding us and helping us with our questions. They even went the extra mile helping us make some local phone calls since our phones would not work in Brazil. The hotel has pool and restaurant service which makes your stay nice and smooth. Thank you very much guys for all the help!
