I’ve been traveling for 47 years, staying in hotels across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond. I’ve experienced budget stays and five-star resorts. But nothing — absolutely nothing — prepared me for the nightmare that was Residhotel in Lyon, France (booked through Orbitz, which I use frequently). We were traveling through the EU and needed a quick overnight stop in Lyon before heading to Paris. We booked two rooms — one for my wife and me, and one for my daughter and son-in-law traveling with us. This will go down as the single worst place we have ever stayed. Here’s why: 1. Air conditioning didn’t work in either room — in the middle of summer. 2. The property looks and feels like it’s stuck in the early 1990s, without any charm — just pure neglect. 3. The toilet rooms were humid, hot, filthy, and reeked of urine. 4. The entire place smelled faintly of roach spray, as if pests were an ongoing problem. 5. Carpets looked like they were straight out of the late 1980s — stained, worn, and beyond saving. 6. Cigarette burns on the couches. 7. Pieces of the shower fixtures were literally falling off. 8. Electrical panel switches were loose and hanging — a safety hazard. 9. Toilet bowls were permanently yellowed and disgusting. 10. The furniture arrangement made no sense and looked thrown together from a junk shop. 11. Tiny, outdated televisions with no internet connection. 12. Checked in early and they accommodated us with a room, but the if conditioner was faulty. After two trips down to the front desk, they moved us to another room right next door and all was good. Very accommodating.

When raising the issue with air conditioning multiple times, I was simply told that there was no solution and I could "stay there and wait for a Manager for hours if I wanted" as no one was available to help me further. This is the worst experience I've ever had and would not recommend staying there.

It was very bssic for the price- Kettle was dirty and the room was tatty. Stayed in loads of Ibis and Travelodges that were better value than here. Only saving grace was the fridge😁

The room was way too hot. No way to get the temperature down. The air conditioning was not blowing cool air, even on the lowest setting. We resorted to open the window, but then traffic noise was very loud. The room was otherwise clean. But we did not rest that night.

Cheap hotel but good value for money. Room larger than expected. Duvets, pillow and sheets all seem to have been renewed recently and together with the beds surprisingly nice and comfortable. Hotel a little bit worn around the edges and room too hot. Very convenient for Lyon Part Dieu station and airport shuttle train. Little bit far from Old Town.

The Hotel for us was very good, good size room and facilities were adequate. I think the fridge should be defrosted more regularly as the ice build up is making it inefficient, consuming excess energy.
