Marta's house is beautifully located on a quiet rural road near a few other houses. There is a great view of Mount Pico from the rear yard and a distant view of the sea from the front. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and it is very well equipped for cooking (plenty of utensils, pans, crockery, cutlery etc). The house is beautifully decorated and is obviously very well looked after. We enjoyed the small patio area with sun loungers at the front, perfect for breakfast in the sun or a drink in the evening. The house is only a 15 minute drive from Madalena, the main commercial town on the island. It's also equally close to Sao Roque and only about 35-40 minutes from the lovely little port of Lajes and probably the best place anywhere in the Azores for whale watching trips. Overall we were very happy with the location. You will need a car, but that it likely to be true wherever you stay.

We absolutely adored this apartment! The location is about 20 minutes out of downtown Madalena, which we loved because we felt close to the main groceries, restaurants, etc. but still had the experience of living in a smaller town surrounded by nature. We could also “see” Pico (the volcano was mostly covered by clouds the entire time we stayed here so we weren’t very lucky with the views!) from the apartment.
The apartment is adorable and so beautifully decorated. It also has EVERYTHING you need; well-equipped is an understatement. We cooked our dinners at home every night and the kitchen had every tool, even herb, we needed. There were extra towels put out just in case, extra toilet paper available; everything was there for us to feel just like at home. We also really appreciated the dehumidifier in the room, considering the climate is so humid, this really helped with our overall comfort.
Bonus points for the bed that was extra comfortable.
Marta was also very responsive and sweet and the check-in and check-out process was a breeze. She even accommodated us with a late check-out at the last minute!
We liked everything and would go back !
