Carew House Cottage

Well appointed bedrooms - the main bedroom is very nice. Appreciated the local biscuits and milk left for our arrival.

I appreciate the property is old, but there is a very musty/mouldy smell downstairs. Being next door to the village shop and opposite the pub, it’s quite noisy (single glazing). And we felt the check-in/check-out times were a bit mean (4pm/10am) for the price. Whilst it’s not the property’s fault, the streets in the immediate vicinity leave something to be desired - lots of boarded-up windows…

Loved how cozy and comfy the cottage is, very homely and lovely little gestures when we arrived. Very very clean. Everything we needed including WiFi and towels. Location was perfect as I was able to walk to the venue, there was on street parking outside. 2 doors up from the corner shop which was great to get some bits we forgot. The sofa pulls out in to a double bed which was great, nice size fridge and freezer. Great shower and 1 room has a on suite which work perfect, no arguments over the bathroom. There are little notes all round to help you work everything.

The shocking lack of communication before I arrived despite sending 47 messages and 5 phone calls, I never spoke to a person. It was all AI and extra stress. The property isn't double glazed so you hear everything, if you're a light sleeper or easy woken by noise take ear plugs. Booking.com and Sykes really let this property down, I was also told after I paid for the rental in full I'd have to pay another £150. I genuinely thought this property wasn't really and it was a scam. So relieved to see a really house and keys that worked.

Sehr hübsch eingerichtet. Genug Platz und die Schlafzimmer super schön mit bequemen Betten. Die Badezimmer super modern und alles vorhandenen was man braucht. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Im Dorfladen gibt es Feuerholz und wir hatten schöne Abende vor dem Kamin. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hier übernachten.

Parkplatzsituation eher schwierig. Wir mussten unser Gepäck ziemlich weit tragen. Aber wenn man Glück hat, bekommt man direkt vor dem Cottage mal einen Platz. Die kleine Straße ist sehr stark befahren, was in der Früh recht laut werden kann, auch die Live Musik aus dem Pub gegenüber kann sehr laut werden.

The history of the cottage was great, I love old properties. The owner provided useful information pack, including information on using cooker etc & attractions & local history. Plenty of hot water & good shower. I cooked a few evenings and breakfasts & had sufficient cookware. Logs were provided & we had a fire one evening when it was raining. The cottage was roomy for the 2 of us. The Star Inn in Vogue was excellent entertainment and food.

Cleaning - I’ve stayed in some properties that were excellent and some poor. Whilst the ensuite was clean enough I feel more attention could be given to cleaning, the skirting boards in all rooms & towel rails particularly in the wet room. There were cob webs & dead spiders in corners of rooms that had been there for more than a few days ( I live in an old cottage with beams so appreciate the spider thing) Some areas could also do with a fresh coat of paint particularly the kitchen. If you allow dogs to stay I feel more attention is needed as there were some dog hairs. We could see the property was next to a shop so parking close was an issue at times.
