The Border Lodge

Attending a wedding at Ballymascanlon so needed an inexpensive overnight close by. This fitted the bill. 3-bedroom, very clean, all amenities needed. Even had a hot tub but as we were only overnighting after a wedding we didn’t need it. Lovely little seating area out back. Good bathroom & enough clean towels for us all.

The prefab itself is a little jaded although beds, furniture & accessories were relatively new. Bedrooms are very small with no room to put a bedside table/shelf at either side of the doubles. Communication from host was poor. I had to call to get the access code and found out I hadn’t been emailed the welcome pack. Just as well we didn’t need the hot tub as it wasn’t set up. There was also a fusty smell in the prefab but it dissipated shortly after we opened all the doors and a few windows. We didn’t get sent details of the WiFi and the 5G/4G connection was terrible. Finally, the taxi we ordered from the hotel was ridiculously expensive for such a short journey. Maybe if we’d had a welcome pack we may have had recommended taxis to call.

The property had good access to local amenities and a half hour from the fishing village of carlingford. But the hot tub was lovely to sit there and chat as it started to go dark, taking in lovely views of the cows going by in the field. Beds were extremely comfortable too.

There was a terrible smell in the bathroom. The hot tub also smelt really foul so we didn’t use it. The cold water didn’t work in the bathroom. Very noisy, right on a very busy road and zero insulation or sound proofing. Spider webs in a lot of places. Very expensive for what it is.
