The aspects of traditional with modern were great! Tatami mats, in-built onsen, wood in most places, out in the forest, it was all beautiful and unique. Along with that, kids play room with projector, spacious kitchen and bathroom, washing machine, modern toilet, lighting. We loved it and wished we could have stayed longer!

Unless you are traveling by cab or your own car, the walk is an uphill battle. The bus stop is at the foot of the hill. It's a steep walk, and only doable with backpacks. If you have large luggage, then I recommend using a cab to get to the top. Even if you get down at the bus stop with luggage, it might just be worth getting a cab to go up. We fortunately only had backpacks, and even then it felt like a struggle. So it was extremely satisfying to arrive at a great home and jump inot the onsen after that terrible climb.

Parking lot has a step that could be tricky

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cette maison au calme dans les bois. L'environnement naturel et le calme étaient une parfaite transition dans notre voyage entre Osaka et Tokyo. La maison est très moderne avec un look traditionnel, et le onsen est parfait pour une pause détente après une journée de marche. Tout est confortable et les nombreux guides dans la maison permettent de se servir de tous les appareils facilement. Nous avions une voiture, ce qui rendait l'accès plutot facile, attention cependant a bien noter qu'elle est au bout d'un chemin très pentu qui peut être difficile a pieds. Enfin, elle est idealement placée pour visiter la region (Lac Ashi, Hakone...). Bref, c'était vraiment parfait, nous l'avons deja recommandée à nos proches pour leurs futurs voyages!

The location was good (despite the steep road) and quiet. The rooms were spacious.

We were really disappointed with this stay. The home was absolutely freezing on arrival and it took all night to warm up the space. I could not get comfortable or sleep well. We used the gas heaters, in addition to the heat pumps, on arrival, but did not want to leave them running overnight. The bathroom is downstairs so it was very daunting to get out of bed and go downstairs in the freezing cold during the night or brush your teeth in the morning. Moreover, the onsen was lukewarm at best (even when following the instructions to heat it up). The cups and mugs were plastic. Note that my husband and I lived in old Japanese apartments for years so we are used to their quirks and shortcomings, but this was more than we could handle.
