Buffelsdrift Farm

We loved our short stay at the Wine Store. It was the perfect escape. The building is situated amongst the olive trees so you are surrounded by nature. The building itself is quite charming from the outside and feels like a true piece Karoo history. The interiors of the building are contemporary and beautifully finished. The downstairs lounge & kitchen are exceptionally designed. The natural stone of the floors is really stunning and made us immediately take our shoes off and get comfortable. The fireplace in the lounge worked overtime, so we were very grateful that we were brought additional firewood without us having to ask. The staircase is the showpieces and very unique-looking. Upstairs, the room is spacious, well-furnished and very clean. The are also many comfortable spots to sit and read a book or just hang out. The bed is extremely comfortable and the sheets are clean & high quality. We loved the ritual of opening the shutters of the windows each morning and watching the light pouring in. The bathroom was also very beautifully decorated and has a great view of the olive trees and the rest of the property. It was extremely peaceful & quiet here, we didn't see a single other person other than Stella, who opened up for us. I would definitely recommend this stay if you are looking for some time to escape the hustle and bustle and appreciate nature.

One thing that was potentially missing is a welcome card or something that gave some additional information about the history of the building and the farm. Perhaps a self-guided walk around the farm/ orchards? A small personal detail like that would take the stay to another level. While we were there, the pool was out of commission, which didn't affect us because it wasn't warm enough to swim, but I think it should be communicated to avoid disappointment. There were a number of bugs & spiders, which is understandable due to the location, but perhaps a natural bug repellant or something like that in the room could be helpful. The only other critique that I had was that the shower takes quite a long time to get warm (probably quite difficult to manage this) but being a local to the Western Cape I'm just naturally conscious of water usage, so it was noticeable.

The farm is absolutely beautiful, and the interiors are exceptionally. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, creating a beautiful and comfortable overall experience.
