It was close to the metro station. It was clean and tidy.
The neighborhood is a little bit scary, and sketchy. But it was ok.

I really liked the location and the fact that the room was cost-effective. For this trip to NYC, I wanted to handle business at Columbia University and still have enough money to shop and spend time around the city. My goal was to spend less on lodging so I'd have more money to have fun with. The building location was perfect for what I needed. Initially, I had difficulty getting into the building. I called a staff member and immediately got the help I needed. After I checked into the building and safely put my luggage away, I stepped back out to get dinner. The building is very close to restaurants, delis, bars, etc. I never had to worry about finding something to eat nearby because there were so many options in walking distance. The area is also heavily traveled by buses, so I was able to travel to other sections of Harlem very quickly. Traveling outside of Harlem is also easy because there's a subway station nearby. Midtown, Brooklyn and other areas are easy to get to via train. I paid less than I would have at a hotel but I still felt safe in the building I stayed in. My stay was definitely worth what I paid. Like all areas of New York City, you have to be aware of your surroundings but I didn't feel less safe in this area than I did in other parts of the City.
There was a bowl and utensils left in the room that were washed but they weren't clean to a point where I felt comfortable using them. That made me a little apprehensive about the cleanliness of the bed, but ultimately I didn't have a problem with anything else. I also didn't know where to take out my trash, so I think the building owners should add this in their instructions. When you book a stay here, you don't get a few things that ordinarily come with hotels. For instance, there was no TV in my room. You have to share bathrooms with other people on that floor. The building does not supply towels, soap for shower, or shampoo. So you should bring those items. I'd also suggest bringing plastic utensils, and flip flops to wear in the shower. The building does give toilet paper, so no need to bring that. I had to use the restroom around 3 am and I felt safe enough in the building to do that. Overall, my stay was worth what I paid. Also, if you forget to bring toothpaste for example, you can easily get it from one of the stores nearby.

I liked closeness to the Central Park and other touristy places. The neighbourhood was good as well. Shops and great coffee spots. Room was spacious. Price but I expected a little bit more for it.
House needs to be freshen up/refurbished. Our room was on the 4th floor - very noisy and steep stairs so if you have a big suitcase it's a hell of a journey up, shower was a just a cubicle with a shower tray, no room to put your stuff at all and water was only extremely hot - regulation wasn't working, you can hear every noise in the house.
