Calma Cafe - Surf, Stay and Yoga

Fantastic position on the coast with large garden with bean bags and parasols leading onto the beach which is a lovely quiet bay with safe shallow waters. We stayed in the double rooms with terrace and garden view. It’s a very chill, rustic atmosphere , not formal at all which we liked. Surf lesson was fun and availability to hire a board independently whenever you fancy great. Restaurant has good food during the day (didn’t seem to be open late and not busy). Hirikateya is nice lively town a short tuk tuk ride away. (There’s no restaurants in close walking distance). You need to walk a few mins from Sjael to the main road to get a tuk tuk (we managed to get a local bus when no tuks tuks were available). Getting back is no problem as there’s loads of tuk tuks in Hirikateya.

Music was played all day in the garden, pretty loud at times which was a bit much when we wanted to hang out there all day. However , it didn’t go on too late at night.

Inhaber und Personal waren sehr nett. Absolut neues Gebäude mit netter Inneneinrichtung.

Manchmal war es schwieriger ein Tuktuk zu bekommen, um nach Hiriketiya zu fahren.

Dieser Ort ist wirklich ein Paradies! Wir hatten ein sehr großes, sauberes und modernes Zimmer im obersten Stockwerk mit Meerblick. Das Team von Sjael, welches uns direkt herzlich willkommen hieß, ist super freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Frühstück à la carte war fantastisch lecker und liebevoll zubereitet. Die Unterkunft liegt an einem sehr ruhigen Strandabschnitt mit chill out area inklusive Sitzsäcken und Schirmen. Man kann sich Getränke, Lunch oder Snacks direkt an seinen Platz bestellen. Die traumhafte Bucht von Kudawella ist perfekt ohne Trubel surfen zu lernen. Der Surflehrer Tharus ist ein sehr netter und geduldiger Typ. Es hat viel Spaß gemacht bei ihm surfen zu lernen. Wenn man die Menschenmassen und die Verhältnisse am Strand von Weligama kennt, weiß man diesen magischen Ort noch mehr zu schätzen. Für die nächste Reise nach Sri Lanka werden wir definitiv hierher zurückkehren!

All in all they really try to do a good job. The café's location (where brekkie is served) is really nice. However, the rooms are in the back, not at the beach like you might expect. Rooms did not meet my expectations of cleanliness and the bathroom had an odd smell. Brekkie was good but it took forever to come. I don't like to give bad reviews and it definitely was not that bad but I would not come back :(
