Solara Beach House

We had a really lovely stay at Solara Beach House and were very happy with the overall experience, especially for the price we paid. We booked at the last minute and got a great deal from Agoda on a Family Suite, which was very spacious, modern and comfortable. It even had additional bunk beds, although we didn’t need to use them. The balcony overlooking the beach was definitely a highlight! The location is beautiful, the hotel is right in front of a lovely soft sand beach, and it’s also a great spot for surfing. The staff even helped us arrange surfing lessons with the surf school right in front of the hotel, which was super convenient. Hiriketiya Beach is also only around a 10 minute drive away. A special thank you to Gagana, Shehan, Gihan and the security uncle, who were all incredibly friendly and welcoming and made our stay even nicer. 😊 The hotel also has its own restaurant, and we enjoyed the food. They allow BYOB as well, which was a nice bonus. Since it’s a relatively small boutique property, it didn’t feel crowded, which we really liked. The room had the essentials such as towels, hot water, soap, shampoo, hand wash, etc. There were only a few minor things that could be improved. Some of the outdoor areas and grass could use a little more maintenance. Few additional toiletries weren’t included and we didn't really request since we had our own, this wasn’t an issue for us. The access road to the hotel could also be better maintained, it made us a little unsure about what to expect when we first arrived, but once we got there, we were pleasantly surprised. The beautiful beachfront location, spacious room, friendly staff and value for money made our stay really enjoyable. I’d happily recommend Solara Beach House, especially if you’re looking for a relaxed beachfront boutique stay near Hiriketiya or somewhere convenient for surfing. 🌊🏄‍♀️

⸻ I stayed here with my wife. They allowed a late checkout until 1:30 PM, which was appreciated. The location is good and the beach is nice. However, overall it was not worth the money we paid considering the service and facilities provided. Starting with the welcome drink—serving papaya juice in hot weather was surprising, and unfortunately it was not cold or pleasant to drink. Honestly, it would have been better not to offer it at all. Cleanliness was a major issue. When I went to the bathroom, I found lizard droppings on the floor and even in the shower area, which was very disappointing. There was no bath mat at the bathroom entrance, so water spread everywhere after showering. Basic amenities like body wash or other toiletries were not provided. The towels were of poor quality and left lint all over the body and hair after use. The room also lacked several expected facilities—there was no television, and although a kettle was provided, there was no proper plug point to use it. There was also no complimentary tea or coffee in the room. Privacy was another concern, as the curtains did not close properly, making it possible for people outside to see directly into the room, including the bed area. This made us feel uncomfortable. Additionally, there was no room service telephone and no swimming pool. Considering the lack of these basic facilities, I strongly feel the price is too high for what is offered. The property should either reduce the price or improve the quality of service and at least provide essential amenities to make the stay worth the money.

Lovely hotel right by a quiet beach, huge room and balcony overlooking the beach. Very value for money, but would suggest maybe investing in a fly zapper or burning more mosquito coils because alot of insects were flying around at night (of course unavoidable since we are in nature, but good to minimise it).

Unfortunately, our stay at Solara Beach House was very disappointing and did not match the photos or expectations. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with good-quality linen, and the direct beach access was excellent. However, the shower had extremely low water pressure. The property itself was poorly maintained, with flies around the entrance/lobby and an overgrown garden. Service was also far below expectations. Basic tea/coffee supplies were not provided despite having a kettle. Breakfast was particularly frustrating. We ordered one Sri Lankan and one American breakfast the previous evening, with an agreed 8:30 AM serving time. The chef later asked us to wait until 9:45 AM because he had woken up late. Even after waiting, we were told the Sri Lankan breakfast could not be prepared and both of us had to have the American breakfast instead. There were also serious hygiene concerns: a visibly dirty cutlery basket with what appeared to be gecko droppings, an unclean toilet seat, heavily sweetened watermelon juice instead of the requested mixed fruit juice, and a glass containing coconut fibre. The disposable straw also appeared dirty. Overall, despite the nice room and beach, the poor maintenance, service, breakfast experience, and hygiene standards made this one of our worst villa stays. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Solara Beach House.
