It was quaintly retro Irish.
Nothing much. It is not a luxury hotel, just an authentic homely Irish experience.

This is a special place that radiates authenticity, as far away from the pubs along Temple Bar in Dublin that you can possibly come. A rustic little pub not so far away from the River Shannon. Due to this, the place is full of fishing gear, stuffed fish, and pictures of catch and fishermen, in addition to all kinds of other stash, including an anvil. The top attraction is the owner Paddy, friendly and humorous. We arrived in the evening and was invited to bring in some take-away food from the Chinese restaurant down the street. Nice parking spot in the back.
If you are looking for a spotless, shiny place, this may not be your choice. That said, the room we had upstairs was nice and clean, and had the vibe you only find in an old house. (No ghosts were seen though.) You may hear some noise from downstairs, but we had a good night sleep here. Shared bathroom, but no queue and plenty of clean towels.

It was an amazing experience! Paddy, the owner of the lodge na dyne bar downstairs is wonderful. It felt like visiting a relative, a cool grandpa. He welcomed us and showed us our room. And then later we spent some time in the pub, having some delicious Guinness and warm chats with Paddy and some of other guest in the pub.
The room was very nice na d warm.

Location, ample off road parking. Paddy was charming, served the best Guinness I have ever had in a very quaint bar steeped in history. When asked what time the bar closed he replied “Christmas” - we were in early November!
Upon arrival the place looks abandoned, paint in poor condition, windows cracked - it’s in darkness. Paddy let me in, showed me the rooms all of which looked in need of extensive decoration. Window in RM2 was cracked and actually had plants growing through into the room - the bathroom was ok bar the shower; a health hazard with mould on the shower head.
But, the kettles worked, good WiFi, and Paddy was such a gent it’s hard to complain… anywhere else I would have demanded an immediate refund.

Cleanliness

They sent an email to say we should not have hiugh expectations for this 200 year old coaching inn. They were right. There is a diffeence between old and dirty, unclean and uncempt.
Dirty seats, bar, unhygenie room. Horrible. The owner was drunk and kept pking me with his finger when talking to me. If we could find somewhere else on the night we would have left.

Although the accommodation wouldn't be to everyone's taste I would challenge anyone not to come away from staying with Paddy feeling that bit better about the world. The warmth of the welcome and being in Paddys company for even the shortest time made me want to stay longer. We were attending a concert in Limerick so only had a couple of drinks when we returned but It was the most special experience I have had in quite some time. The clientele were fantastic and the atmosphere was exceptional. A hidden gem and an example of Irish hospitality that we should be very proud off. Slainte Paddy!!
Premises a bit dated but actually added to the charm of the complete experience. Avoid 5 star pizza next door as not very good. I would take away 4 of the stars to be honest.

If you want an authentic Irish experience then Paddy’s is the place to go! You’ll be greeted by a friendly dog, sleep in the softest bed ever and no one pours a better pint. We will be sure to stay at the Kingfisher next time we’re here!
We should have stayed longer!

The owner was amazing! So kind and thoughtful! I cant recommend this location enough! Especially to any Americans that would like an authentic Irish place to stay. Beautiful walks and sights nearby also!

Paddy is a very welcoming host, a charmer, looking for the chats! More than happy to assist with anything requested.
Went downstiars for a few quiet drinks in the pub the night we stayed, very pleasant.
Paddys accomadation is very old school and may not be for everyones taste. We needed a bed for 1 night for ourselves and our two children and found it to be adequate. Beds were comfy, clean sheets and we had a good nights sleep.
This accomadation would not be for everyone, it is very dated. We were happy with our stay but don't book if you are expecting a fancy room with mod-cons - you will be disappointed. Book here if you are not fussy and looking for a bed for the night and a good pint of guinness downstairs.

The friendliness of the staff, the safe parking the safe environment you were located
A bit aged but fit for purpose a bit quirky and unusual old furniture but more historical than anything.

Paddy seemed kind.
Well... We pulled up at the parking area behind the house. There we were met by a pile of dog soil, old construction trash, a caravan, a BMW with two young thugs and yeah. We left the place right away and booked a hotel instead.

Paddy is a great bloke and very friendly. Went out of his way to help me with knowing food places and how to get to places. Even bought me a Guinness.
The pub itself is beautiful and old with alot of history. The village it's in is stunning with a great community with everyone piling into church for mass. Absolutely loved this place.
Only thing I can say is buses are few and far between

We loved the location in Castleconnell. Great little walkable town, friendly, easy parking. Paddy is an exceptional host, he made us feel right at home and he is generous with his time and knowledge of the place!
We did not like that we had to leave early in the morning and would have enjoyed more time in town.

If you are interested in something different and unusual, I recommend this place. It’s over 200 years old and if you’re a stickler for modern and ultra clean then this isn’t your best bet. However, if you’re interested in stepping back in time and enjoying the most authentic old Irish pub I saw anywhere and a place with old but cool ambiance, then you should go here. The owner, Paddy Guerin, is a kind and eccentric character who is loved by the locals and was a treat to meet. Enjoy a pint of Guinness or other drink of choice at his Pub during the evening of your stay. The location is close to the lovely Shannon River and to Limerick.
Its old and dilapidated character was initially off putting, but I came to love the place and have fond memories of my stay.

We picked the Kingfisher pub to stop off in for a night because we loved the look of the pub and we weren't disappointed! Paddy was extremely welcoming and the pub is a lovely old building, a great place to spend the evening. The room was bigger than I expected and very comfy, you could slightly hear the noise from downstairs but it is a pub after all and we really enjoyed the atmosphere.
We had to wait a little while to all use the shared bathroom but this wasn't really an issue.

Convenient location in the town. Traditional Irish hospitality and Paddy pulls the nicest pint of Guinness I've had in a long time. Lovely dark cosy pub too, with an interesting collection of fishing equipment and other curios.
No complaints

Kingfisher Lodge is a charming pub full of character, situated in the beautiful small town of Castleconnell. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the publican, Paddy, who made us feel right at home. The room was perfectly comfortable and warm, and the facilities clean and tidy. Paddy provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and we very much enjoyed his company at the bar! He even introduced us to his pet dog named Bruce Springsteen, who we were very happy to meet. Kingfisher Lodge is Paddy’s home, and it is clearly a very special place to him and his community. We feel very lucky that we stumbled across this little gem, and would recommend it to anyone for an unforgettable experience.
