Beautifully refurbished cottage in lower Wivenhoe.

This lovely property is in a fantastic spot in Wivenhoe, close to the quayside, the station and all the local shops, pubs and cafes. It’s beautifully presented and very well equipped. The open-plan living kitchen/area is a great sociable space and works really well. We stayed over a very hot weekend in July, so we made the most of the garden—perfect for al fresco dining and relaxing.

The only thing that could have been better was the arrangements with the beds and getting in touch beforehand. The website description says: Bedroom 1: 1 double bed Bedroom 2: 1 single bed and 1 double bed Living room: 1 sofa bed We thought that since there were three of us, one of us would have bedroom 1 and the other two would share bedroom 2, with one in the double bed and the other in the single. However, bedroom 2 actually has a trundle bed that can be used as a single or a double (or even two singles). Even though there was a bit of a mix-up, we could still all have had a bed to ourselves without needing to use the sofa bed in the living room. I had messaged the hosts a few days before our stay to confirm that we would need all three beds (but not the sofa bed) but when we arrived, only the double bed in bedroom 1 was made up and the bed in bedroom 2 was configured and made up as a single bed. I have no doubt our hosts would have sorted this out if we had messaged them when we arrived, but we were on a tight schedule and were due to head out fairly soon after checking in, so we made up the extra bed ourselves. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property or booking it again, but next time, I would double-check that our bed requirements had been picked up.

Well thought out, beautifully appointed, thoughtful touches. Superb location in the heart of this delightful village, close to all amenities and very convenient for the rail station. Very comfortable fora family with a separate games room and sunny outside seating area at the back. Two bedrooms, one full bathroom upstairs and one downstairs half bathroom. It felt spacious and at the same time everything you need is in each.

I do like a hard mattress so I find all hotel/rental accommodation beds are too soft but that’s a very personal issue.

Spotlessly clean. Everything you need for self catering, kitchen well stocked.

Everything in the cottage was wonderful. Parking is the only 'slight' problem. We chose to park around the corner instead so your car may not be right outside.
