Finest Retreats - Gratton House

The views were amazing.Very well equipped,with tasteful furnishings.

Beds were small in all but one room,single beds were only suitable for children and not adults.The secured garden for dogs,one of the reasons we booked was not secure,the gate was broken which led into a larger open area.This area could not be used as horses had been there and the lawn was covered in horse poo.

The property is so spacious and suited our family group perfectly. There was lots of room for everyone including the dogs. An en suite for everyone made life really easy and the views were amazing. We really loved the house and the location so close to Exeter, Dartmoor and the beaches was just perfect. We would definitely visit again.

The garden was not dog secure which made relaxing in the garden difficult. There were lots of cobwebs and dust around the property. Difficult to keep such a large property very clean but this could be improved. Some more kitchen equipment would be useful eg a large sieve for pasta and rice drainage and more mugs - when you have 9 people all wanting coffee you need lots of cups. The driveway is very steep and nervous drivers would find it difficult.

The property was spacious and the en-suite bathrooms were very useful. The beds were clean and comfy. The property had excellent views over the countryside with nice outdoor seating areas.

The property was not cleaned up to our expectation. Lots of cobwebs and moths in the home when we arrived. There were dirty kitchen items on arrival. We contacted the host who offered for a deep clean to take place whilst we were there but at that point we had cleaned pans as we needed to use them. There were bedrooms/cupboards locked during our stay which we understood but those locked rooms had windows open during our whole stay which we didn’t like as it meant someone could’ve potentially accessed the property. The hosts were made aware but no action was taken. The bins were full at the start of our stay and did not get emptied during our stay (no guidance on bin collection day given in the information book) so rubbish built up quite easily. The driveway is very steep which wasn’t an issue other than overgrown bushes which made the drive up quite tight as there is a wall on the opposite side. We had planned to take our dog but due to unforeseen circumstances he did not come. However, the garden was not secure in any areas as the gate was broken. The large bottom lawn had sheep poo all over it so it appeared animals roamed on this when the property is not occupied.
