We were looking for a 2 night stay on Lake Sinakharin where reviews were very mixed. At a reasonable price we found Taramontra which is located on the river below the dam. It is 4 years old floating on the river. Stunning views. Fantastic decor. Whilst it is next to the road, the river is well below, so no issues with noise. Very peaceful. 31 steps down to the landing, but staff managed our bags both up and down. The town is about a kilometre away, which has good restaurants or you can order a meal with the staff. Free canoe and life jackets. It was so peaceful and relaxing, sitting on the deck in the evening.

A tip: in the evening, turn off the lights and keep the door closed. Mosquitoes abound in this watery paradise.

Taramontra is absolutely gorgeous. I was worried it was by a road but the river is below the road level so you aren't aware of it at all. The view is amazing and the rooms are lovely with a deck at the back you can swim / canoe off (beware the current though). The reception/ dining area is also lovely- they order dinner (surprisingly hot) from the restaurant next door so you can have it on your deck, but breakfast is on site. You can get a lift from the owner to/ from erawan easily. I stayed with my 10 & 13 yr old for 2 nights and they loved it.

Breakfast is not good. - A very odd choice between 2 set options- would be better if they just had a basic menu to make your own choice. If you ask they will do that for you. The river is a sandwiched section between 2 dams- sometimes it's totally still and other times it's incredibly fast- be careful going in.
