Hakone Honbako 箱根本箱

There is a serene cool vibe to the place. Hakone was truly relaxing after the Tokyo hustle and bustle. The dinner and breakfast service was next level. At dinner, I enjoyed the non-alcoholic tea pairing which was so unique - cocktails made of tea complimenting the 8 course menu. WOW! There were so many thoughtful touches throughout the hotel from ice cream treats and gin in the basement to the being able to sit anywhere to enjoy the extensive library. For an avid reader, this felt like heaven! I bought a novel to take home that I discovered on the shelves. Additionally, the gift shop was thoughtfully curated with beautiful Japanese creations. I'm definitely coming back but will def stay a few days. There is much to explore in the area and even more relaxing to do!

Great service, ambience was amazing, so many freebies for drinks, coffee, beer, cookies.

I liked everything… oh maybe better wine selection at dinner.

Privates onsen were great, the hotel does not have a lot of rooms, so usually the onsens are empty.

A little far away from the station, but without luggage is really ok

Amazing authentic Japanese breakfast.

I don’t think the pajamas on my bed had been washed between guests. They smelled like another person, so I couldn’t use them. The walls needed paint in our room. Some scuff marks.
