Dangerous Safety Hazards, Filth, and Total Neglect – Avoid at All Costs

I had an absolutely appalling experience at this property. Despite a long journey and a late arrival, we were met with a property that was not only filthy but structurally unsafe. The most serious issues included: Safety Hazards: A broken, detached banister on the stairs (pictured) and loose internal door handles. This is a major injury risk. Hygiene: The property was covered in cobwebs and thick 'dust balls.' The kitchen appliances were covered in grease and grime, requiring us to deep-clean before we could even cook. The extractor fan was heavily clogged with debris. Inaccurate/Broken Facilities: We booked this specifically for the bath/shower, but the shower head fell apart and was unusable. We were also given two single beds pushed together with lumpy, stained pillows and no pillowcases—unacceptable for guests with medical back and shoulder conditions. Host Negligence: The host ignored all formal reports regarding safety and hygiene, only contacting us to demand an early check-out (10 AM), which directly contradicted the 11 AM check-out on my booking confirmation. This stay was a total loss of money and caused significant physical and mental distress. I am currently pursuing a full refund through Booking.com and a Section 75 bank claim. Save your money and your safety—do not stay here.

Ok stay but not if more than 4 people

It was in a good location And has plenty of space The beds were comfortable

We are a family of 5 so needed to use the sofa bed. But there was no bedding for this! There were not enough towels for 5 people. It was disappointing to find crumbs and mud on the sofa which we could not hover off as there was no hoover.

Flimsy, depressing flat on a par with motel 6

Has a roof, walls, beds, bathroom and kitchen. Reminded me of back packing in Eastern Europe 20 years ago. Bedding seemed nicely arranged. Good place to store bags.

Out of fairness to another 2 bed flat we rented in the town center for a similar rate we have to give this at most 2 out of 10. 1 point because it is accurate and another point because it is independently accessed and has parking right outside. Why are the other points missing (in particular in comparison the similarly priced flat)? - there's potential for a lot of character but this place just ignored that, instead slapped on cheap grey plastic flooring that kind of floats in some places. The glossy black shiny wall of shiny flakes in the bathroom seems like it's from outer space and there's an emerald green sofa to really top it off. - the whole interior needs a paint. - the harsh white lights give that morgue feel - there's a slight mildewy smell in the bathroom - I recommend washing the cutlery before using it. - there's another flat below and in our case the shared alleyway outside it became an extension of their living room making it a bit awkward to go in and out of our front door. - only the living room greeted us with an ironing board and iron set up in the middle of the room with the dregs of a cover. - the kitchen window seemed semi-frosted with dirt or lime scale to help hide the view of the parking spot. - no soaps or shower gels - bring your own. We booked this for a week but stayed for an hour because we just couldn't face being in this place for that long. If you're working somewhere else and you just need a bed and toilet this might be sufficient.

Central huntingdon location. Simply key pick-up

List of problems: - none of the bed linen was clean - appeared to have brown and red staining and lots of hair, looked unwashed. - no spare linen left for the sofa bed so it was just a sofa and an uncovered pillow and uncovered duvet inner - apartment was generally dirty throughout, dusty, sticky in places - no bin bags left for bins - no hand soap left for either sink - ZERO towels left for a 4-person stay - no offer of recompense or refund having raised the issues - check-in before 4pm costs £20 and yet the check-in process is literally just a key safe and check out is by 10 - general state of property was in need of repair and deep clean Overall would never recommend this accommodation. Just book a nicer hotel in huntingdon, this wasn't that cheap for a 1-night stay.

Don’t book abacus house.you get dumped in a substandard flat up steep winding stairs with lots of stairs inside A bathro

I don’t know. They swapped us to a completely different (inferior) property at the other end of town at last minute. And even though I asked repeatedly about why I am still awaiting a response.

So many extremely steep stairs not advertised both to get to the apartment and inside. Apartment surrounded by fast food takeout and over a fast food restaurant so was noisy and smelled of food if you had windows open. Toilet seat was loose fixtures were not modern. No bath as advertised. Very basic not what was advertised. We tried to get resolution for toilet seat but they never turned up. They tried one day when we were out. We stayed in as asked on other days but they didn’t turn up. One day even told us it was fixed then when we disputed it they said no one was there. Which was it??? Very basic amenities we purchased towels bin bags dish washing and washer tabs. No washer dryer as advertised. Just a washer so had to hand wet clothes up to dry. Second bedroom so small had to leave cases in the small kitchen/lounge /diner which meant we were tripping over them all the time. WiFi (or lack of) we messaged every day more than once asking for it. We got it on last day there. Even though we explained there was no frame on the shelf with details. They kept replying it was on the shelf in a frame!! I still don’t know why they could not have sent it the first day we asked (I think they were most likely sending the person to the wrong flat and thought we were in the booked apartment).

They sent me to a different property without any notice which was much further away from the party.There were no towels and the rating was only 6 - I have messaged them and they promised to look into it but have now stopped responding. I have made a complaint to booking.com

Poor customer service

We didn't get to stay at Abacus House as DH ApartHotels moved us with no choice or explanation. The alternative was passable at best, yet not even a partial refund has been offered. We will not use DH ApartHotels properties again and will be reporting them to the booking.com team.

Quaint old building with plenty of character, great town centre location but also close to country walks.

There was an issue with the boiler which the management team took ages to respond to. Cleanliness was not great either.

Good sized apartment in central Huntingdon location

Very spacious apartment, central but quiet location. Close to plenty of places to eat and drink. Good kitchen facilities, clean bathroom, good sized lounge and 2 bedrooms made the property ideal for a short break.

There were only 2 towels for the 2 of us (no hand towels or bath mat) but I'm sure the host would have provided these had we asked. Indeed, we were encouraged to let them know if we needed anything. The code for the keybox was not as advised by Booking.com but a quick call to the host rectified this immediately.

We stayed in 2 Abacus House before, and had a pleasant time there, so we were very disappointed.

We have stayed at booking.com properties about 24 times over the past few years, staying at about eight different places. After a five hour drive to get to Huntingdon, the first thing we had to do was go shopping. This is the only place we have stayed at that didn't have tea or coffee provided. The listing also said that toiletries were supplied, but all that we found was two empty bottles on top of the washing machine. There was one small, thin bath towel provided for each person. The shower partition was filthy and the shower head was covered in hair. The plug socket by the dining table was coming away from the wall. There wasn't a lock on the bathroom door. One of the bedroom doors would not close, it wasn't even close to the same size as the door frame. The ironing board was broken, which I repaired myself, but it won't last long as the mechanism is very weak, and the cover is not the right size for the board. The confirmation of the booking stated check-in was 15.00 and check-out was 11.00, but then we had quite a few emails stating that check-in was 16.00 and check-out was 10.00, but we could change these for a charge of £20. The listing says that it can be for up to five people, but the plates and dishes in the cupboards would only be enough for two to three people. I don't know if this was all down to the cleaner not doing the job properly, but as the property is run by a hotel name, we thought the standard would be a lot higher. It is a shame, because the apartment itself is very nice and has a lot of potential.

Property is classed as brand new, as soon as you walk through the entrance you can clearly see it is not brand new. Finding the property was a nightmare, the number provided I must of called 6-8times with no answer or call back along with sending messages to say we were struggling to find the property.

The property is a perfect location to the shops café and bars

We couldn't work the heating properly and the bathroom was freezing with no natural light as it didn't have a window also the property is very dark so you needed lights on all the time you really need some small table lights there was only one in the king size bedroom. The property had been refurbished and everything was brand new, but both the wardrobes had no coat hangers so it made it difficult to use ,You could also do with some door hooks especially in the bathroom for the used towels .the refurbishment has been done lovely with excellent standard I just found the lack of natural light difficult but you are very close to the next building.
