Nothing, I didn’t even get inside

Stayed outside front door in the cold for 45 minutes, code provided did not work, no answer from ring doorbell as instructed or from mobile number provided, booking.com had to refund me. And I had to pay over the odds for a replacement room.

When I entered the room it was smelling of cooked fish of some sort. Some strong cooking smell was in my room. I could not stay the night, so I slept at my relatives instead.

Returning great customer

As previously reviews everything great even the owner kindly gave me the private locked room which helped to keep my belongings in Ps. Merry Christmas!

Only little minor was the shutter I couldn’t use I wish I known as it was booked in advance so I could book elsewhere, but regardless could park next to it was a quiet street overall so car was safe :) Apart from that no complaints whatsoever always a pleasure to come stay here excellent host regardless :)

Misleading information

The location was convenient

That you had shared facilities ie bathroom, kitchen etc which wasn't in the description when booking otherwise would not have booked it. Also we paid the price that was on booking.com to then receive a text message as we arrived to check in saying the price advertised was wrong and had to pay an extra £15 . This is not acceptable or fair. Will not be staying again....

Overall, once the key collection happened, the stay was great.

THe rooms were clean and comfortable. It felt like being in a home instead of a guesthouse

Key collection was very inconvenient as me and two other guests waited outside the property for almost 90 minutes without being able to get ahold of the host.

Inexpensive & Ideal!

Very friendly host, very clean property and very comfortable rooms. Location also ideal, just 5 - 10 minutes walk to city centre, and 20 minutes walk to Stadium of Light.

Shared facilities not a deal breaker, but get up early in the morning otherwise you could face a long queue!

A friendly welcome and the lady in charge even kindly offered to bring us a TV to watch.

This accomodation didn't come with a breakfast, but was ideally located for pubs, restaurants, Metro Station and the bus station.

Although not a major issue as it was immediately dealt with we weren't happy with being given just one double bed in the room for two male adults. However, the person in charge promptly dealt with this and brought along a single bed and rectified the problem which we both really appreciated.

Lovely spot, beautiful house, kind host.

The host is so kind and thoughtful. The house is beautiful. They were very accommodating of my bicycle even though both me and the bike showed up rather wet and muddy! The bed was very very comfortable and overall just a lovely place to stay.

Unlocked and shoeless.

Quiet,convenient location.

Code for key box had been changed but new code not sent.As a result I had to contact the owner who told me the new code which was one number to replace the previous five.It did not work and she told me to hit the button hard,to no avail and so I had to wait outside for 35 minutes until she arrived.It did eventually work after she hit it very hard several times.Once inside I was told to remove my trainers and put on some used sandals.The floor was not carpeted and my trainers were clean and dry so I refused. The room was fine but when I asked for a key to my room I was told that it was not possible to lock rooms and that no one would enter.I suggested that I had valuables that needed to be locked in my room.I was told that everyone was honest and that god would ensure that nobody stole anything.Not assured by this I insisted on a key and was given one for a cupboard in the corridor containing her clothes which WAS locked!The remaining time of my stay was uneventful.

Brilliant, would definitely stay there again if available.

-Perfect location for my visit; only about 20 minutes walk from Bus & Train Stations, Town Centre and Family visits. There was even a Convenience Store Shop on the same Road. -Easy access to the property on arrival and Owner was easily contactable if/when required. -Very friendly Owner with good knowledge of the area. -Fully accessible kitchen facilities including Fridge, Microwave and Toaster.

Great stay, would come again

The house is stunning. Anj is lovely as a host and so welcoming whilst at the same time leaving you to do your own thing, but always up for a friendly chit chat and to find how you're finding things. The value for money is exceptional. Everywhere is clean and spacious. The showers great and for me personally I loved there is also a bath there as I do enjoy a good soak. Really handy that there is a separate toilet too so you don't have to hang about to use the toilet if someone else is in the bathroom. Beds are big and really comfy too. Along with the size of the rooms. Made the most of the back massaging rocking chair in my room 😁 Location is ideal with it only being a couple of minutes walk from the centre of town. 10/10 would recommend and if I ever end up in Sunderland again, whether for business or leisure this would be my go to place.

There was nothing wrong with the property apart from the doors to the room I was in had no lock! I know we don’t have many serial killers in the uk but still a bit of security doesn’t go amiss.

I returned to the property and couldn’t gain access! The key turned in the lock but no joy the door didn’t open. It took me longer than it should to get in touch with someone by that time I’d gone elsewhere!

Good first time, now second time exceptional

Returning guest for the second time; Host was lovely polite approachable and cheerful My slight concerns from last time were fixed, given my private car park for the shutter and private key doubly locked. Also helped to somewhat was there available for fridge and tea and coffee etc. Very reasonable and excellent for the price for accommodation to stay - will be back again :)

Great value and comfortable one night stay

I booked this for my son who is currently cycling from Scotland to England!! The host was very helpful. Great on the communication front. Gave him somewhere safe to store his bike overnight. I think he was very impressed by the room and it made a lovely change to his tent!!

City House is well located for the town centre and the football ground.The room was clean and warm there is a nice front room in the house for reading,relaxation and watching tv.The only drawback with the property is a shared bathroom and toilet.

House was clean and in a good location for the town centre Owner was very pleasant and helpful

Not to much of a problem 1) parking onsite needs improvement as house on main road 2) house is not Disabled friendly I have a kidney transplant and Emphasyma plus Aggressive lymphoma so I coped but it was a little difficult at times as toilets and bath room are upstairs Anyone with a greater disability would not be able to stay there

Convenient on the day 😴

Mainly the bed very comfortable next the shower 🚿 it was OK but too many knobs plenty of teas and coffees in the downstairs kitchen and the reception lady was very welcoming. Old and rustic house in a lovely way.

You get a code text from the receptionist for your key in a safe by the front door. Car parking isn't ideal but possible 20 minutes walk to the city.

Great place for a family or group of friends

A lovely period style house, very spacious and only a short distance from the centre. 3 double bedroom, 1 single, all individually decorated in keeping with the style of the house. Tea, coffee and other provisions (bread) provided so that was really nice. Small kitchen but had everything we needed and there was an abundance of crockery! Street seemed quiet even with bedroom windows opened at night. We were only there for very short time so didn't really make use of the lounge and main dining room, but it is an ideal space for a group of friends. Easy self check in as keys in lock safe.

Parking at rear of house v tight (Ford puma) and parking restrictions to front, which I did not know about until I saw a review and contacted owner. No general information in the house that we could see. We couldn't put the ceiling light on in room next to kitchen so assume switch must be in an unusual place /lights not working. For number of people, if staying more than 1 night, 1 bathroom and toilet might not be enough. Tap in toilet needs fixing and a hook in there for hand towel would be useful as would 1 in bathroom. We had no information on the check out time
