The Babel Community Hôtel - Vieux Port

Such a great place to stay in Marseille. We had a room with a kitchen and lounge and it was much larger than we were expecting. Really nicely decorated and very clean. Right in the centre of town but quiet and amazing value. Would recommend!

A hidden gem. This was a terrific hotel, with an amazing breakfast, especially when you include the rooftop setting for the breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff, Great location.

Some aspects were too automated and not intuitive for a older person like myself, especially the ac and some lights.

The location was great, and the view from the terrace while having breakfast was a real highlight of the stay.

The breakfast selection was quite limited. As a vegetarian, I struggled to find suitable options and would have appreciated a wider choice, especially considering the additional £13 charge for breakfast. The coffee, however, was excellent. Another downside was the lack of space for residents to enjoy a drink on the terrace in the evening, as it was often overcrowded with members of the public from outside.

It seems to me a product of a startup / trendy mindset as a multilayer but poorly defined space (residential / hotel / cowork) rather than a good comfortable place to stay. The “climatized” room is always warm (they even put a fan in the room in advance so you don’t even bother them), not enough refreshing for Marseille’s temperatures. Also, in the name of cost-saving, water flow in the shower is not strong enough, sometimes you have to place yourself as close as possible to the wall of the water to have some of the weak flow of water over your body. Finally, the room had a terrible old air conditioning smell. I couldn’t wait to leave and would definitely not stay there again.
