    Stayed one night at the Churchill Hotel. On check-in they asked for my car registration. I explained the car was parked for free in the disabled car park over the road, not in theirs. The young man on reception still insisted he needed the number. I thought it was odd at the time. At checkout they charged me £18 for parking I never used, and tried to charge another £36 for breakfast that had already been paid for. When I pointed out again that the car had been in the free disabled bay, he seemed put out that I wouldn’t just pay the £18 for their empty car park. I also couldn’t manage the stairs. His reply was “blame the council” because there’s no lift at the front. Not a professional or helpful response. The bed was comfortable and breakfast itself was good — those were the only positives. We stayed a few years ago and it was much better then. We had been looking at it as a possible venue for our daughter’s wedding, but that is no longer happening in that hotel Checked out and moved to Judges Lodging in the centre. Better hotel, better service. Would not return to the Churchill. I must add it was a younger man on check in and a younger lady on checkout the older gentleman did not deal with me

    The staff were extremely helpful and professional, always smiling and engaging. The room was beyond clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of city centre and the market etc Will definitely be going back.

    Okay room and good location. But a £18 parking fee charged on our credit card after we had left left a bitter taste. We had booked through Agoda and on arrival we were asked for our credit card details not a problem as this is standard procedure. We were also told that nothing would be charged as we had already ready paid in full in advance. On our arrival home we were shocked to see that £18 had been taken from the card. On a phone call to the Hotel we were told by a very curt employee that it was clear on their website that parking was extra. We hadn’t looked at the site and definitely should have been informed of this on arrival and when they asked for the card and the registration number! at that stage we would have had a choice to park elsewhere instead we were told categorically that no money would be needed! Very underhanded way of doing business in our opinion. It’s not the amount it’s the principle.
