The Gate Lodge

The Gate Lodge is a charming Victorian era building with high ceilings and lovely architecture. The location is next to beach and there is a beautiful view of the Firth of Tay. There is a garden with a gazebo and barbecue. There is plenty of parking. Buses are nearby. A walking/cycling path close by goes along the Tay to Broughty Ferry and Dundee. It is a relaxing scenic place to stay. The place was very clean and appliances were modern.

The hammock on the deck needs replacing. The heating system needed adjusting, but once it was sorted it worked fine. Grocery stores and restaurants are a 20 min walk away.

We loved the location of the property and the ease of access. It has a rather random layout but we thought it added to the charm of the old building, with its high ceilings and sash cord windows. The property was lovely and warm for the time of year (November) and the facilities were great.

The property sits next to a main road and railway line but this didn't detract from our visit. There is also a need for external lighting from the parking area to the backdoor entrance. Luckily our phones had a charge in them when we first arrived.

It was well appointed and very comfortable with a lovely enclosed garden, private drive and great views over the Firth

Inside it is very modern , very clean. It has plenty of white goods, in fact most look brand new.

It’s unfortunate I have to say this but we arrived in the dark, parking without reversing camera would be a nightmare.No lightning in the parking area made it worse. Walking around the area is almost treacherous luckily I carry a torch in the car. A few things that you would only be aware of if you stayed, settee is probably the most uncomfortable one I have ever sat on, a length of wood under the cushion at the front is just painful after sitting for a few minutes. The bed seems to be made of a series of lumps, No ceiling bulbs working ! Dark brown Matt on dark brown wood floor is a trip hazard. A lot of vehicle noise in the bedroom. No dish washer tablets, we don’t have one and as we were only staying for a few days I wasn’t going to buy them. No small saucepan only large or very large. No small frying pans only very large one of which doesn’t register on the hot plates. Tin opener doesn’t work. Only one tea towel. No scrubber for washing up .
