Roaches Retreat Eco Glampsite - Outdoor Family Adventures and Campfire Nights

The tent was lovely, clean and comfortable. Perfectly set up for families with places for children to play, thoughtful extras like books and games. Beds were cosy, blankets and hot water bottles kept us warm all night. Shower was a little tricky to turn on but the water was nice and hot. View from our tent was stunning. Two great pubs in east walking distance :)

The kitchen could have been slightly better provisioned. We were missing a few essentials but this was quickly rectified by our host. Some bbq tools would be really useful. Our only complaint, (and it feels unfair as there is nothing that can be done to help it!) was how close the tents were to a very busy road. Trucks use the road all through the night. The constant traffic noise didn’t really fit with our expectations of a nature based eco retreat.

The tent was well set up, stayed here with our 2 little ones, 5 and 3, who loved it. Thanks for the narshmallows. Kitchen included a gas hob. Toys included in the tent were lovely.

Loved the location and the kids loved the outdoor play but they had to be careful on the bridge as I had a 3year old. The sandpit was very well used. Wheelbarrow was very helpful when unloading the car. The bed was very comfortable and the kids slept very well. The books was read alot too which helped at bedtime with story time. All the cooking facilities was great. all round very well relaxed and kids didn't want to leave.

The shower basin got very full and flooded slightly. Ended up just washing the kids rather than showering them. The sink flow was very slow when washing up.

The location was great for exploring the roaches with some lovely pubs nearby for dinner. The tent was spacious, the beds comfy and the wheelbarrow provided to transport luggage from the car was a nice touch. When we received the firewood it was also nice to site outside and enjoy the fire.

We assumed the site would be a secure glamping site as we've previously stayed on so it's worth flagging that the set up is two tents on a piece of private land off of a main road. This was fine for us when we got over the initial shock but I'd imagine would put some people off booking if they did not know. It would have been nice to have a padlock of sorts on the tent to use at night albeit, if someone wanted to enter your tent uninvited, they could. We also had to message on multiple channels to request our free bag of firewood and didn't hear back from the host for over 24hrs initially. When I called the following day to chase, I was advised that someone would be down to deliver the firewood soon. The firewood was delivered but no explanation or apology received as to why this wasn't provided at check-in. It would also be good to have a couple of hooks in the tent to hang and dry wet towels/clothing as well as a towel hook in the bathroom. Also worth flagging that the phone reception is pretty much zero until you're a couple of minutes down the road (either side). Again, not something that was an issue for us as we ended up enjoying a impromptu digital detox but might deter others.
