Unfortunately, our one-night stay at Hotel Monastère was overshadowed by an unacceptable hygiene issue. On the morning of our departure, we found two cockroaches in our room (Room 215), one even crawling on the bed. We took photos as proof (see attached image). We had very little time before check-out, so we didn’t report it to the front desk in person – instead, we emailed the hotel shortly after. While the hotel did respond, the tone of the replies was more focused on what we supposedly did wrong (not informing reception immediately, not showing the insects) than on sincerely addressing the issue. Cockroaches in a hotel room are not a minor inconvenience – this is a serious cleanliness and maintenance failure. The offered 25% refund did not reflect the severity of the situation, and the lack of understanding in the follow-up communication made it worse. We expected a much more professional and guest-focused handling of this incident. Definitely not the experience we had hoped for.

Lovely, simple, comfortable hotel with a cosy, authentic feel. The room was comfortable (great beds and plenty of room) and everything very clean and well cared for. Our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the street and it was very, very noisy for much of the night. Guests who are light sleepers might want to request a room facing the back.

The bed was very soft which was great but the room was carpeted and the carpet looked very dirty. There are no closets and we were unsure about the cleanliness of the bathroom.

A great hotel and location. I stayed in room 112 which was beautiful. Just a few minor issues to note: I could hear the traffic from my room, the shower was faulty because it’s difficult to regulate the water temperature, the shower was more like a wet room and there’s no wardrobe in the room.

A totally enjoyable stay, the staff make you feel welcome and at home from the moment you arrive. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The building is an old monastery and has been thoughtfully refurbished throughout. The food in the restaurant is great and the bar and restaurant offer a very relaxed atmosphere, just what you need after the busy bars of Maastricht.

Hotel was in a great location for Vrijthof Square for the Andre Rieu concert. Over priced for the standard of the property. Our room was an upgrade but was more a 3 star I think. No wardrobe space or storage, carpet was in need of some attention, cleaned daily but small details like soap being refilled or loo roll being supplied helps.

It is a charming hotel. The staff at check in is mostly young people. It could be by chance but when I had interactions with them, they were unprofessional. They were talking amongst each other, which I don’t mind… but they gave me the keys and I was not able to use it to open my room… twice when checking in. Once I understand , but twice… it is frustrating, more so when there was no apology given. I felt like I was interrupting something… I don’t know how to explain it. I have to go back to the charming town of Maastricht . I am going g to try another place.

Love the location and the vibe of this boutique hotel, but the heating system was not working in our room and there was a stale mildew odor that forced us to open window (winter temps outside). The staff tried to help but no other rooms were available to us. No effort to correct the situation with a credit or refund. It was disappointing.

Had a great 3 night stay here. Maastricht is great city with plenty to do with the Monastere in a great central location and it was very comfortable with nice bedrooms. We had a small drain issue which was fixed very quickly. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

Arrived to find our room was not ready and instructed to come back later . Eventually got in to the family room . It was filthy dirty, cobwebs in the corner of the room, on ceiling lights, and under the bed had it’s on eco system. In addition there was nowhere to place a case , and there are no wardrobes in the room. The lamp side table was broken. When this was brought to the attention of the hotel and you girl ( not a manager and the catering manager ) did their best to rectify the situation but there is only so much they could do. The place is filthy and is grossly understaffed . That you girl was the only person on duty after 5 o clock . No manager or person in authority was on the premises and I believe that this is a regular occurrence . Do not stop here . Go somewhere else and save yourself a multitude of heartache and enjoy your holiday in a difficult premises.

The hotel is very central to the shops and squares and everything is in easy walking distance. The railway station is also close and within easy walking distance. We would definitely recommend getting the Bus from the Airport to the Train Station and walking to the hotel. Bars and Restaurants are in the square about 50m away. The Vrijthof square is only 5 mins walk from the hotel, so perfect if you are going to a concert in the square.

Great location close to restaurants, cafes, and venues. Nice place with stylish decor and friendly staff. Breakfast was pretty good, but the facilities and staffing are not designed for the number of guests the hotel can hold. One must schedule the time for breakfast, and even then it can be that some items are unavailable at that time. Another significant downside is that there is no actual heating in the climate control system. So the room was chilly. The only option is for the dehumidifier feature to be turned on, but that provides minimal or even possibly no benefit. If romance is part of the plan, better adjust your plans a bit... If the weather were warmer, the stay would be much nicer.

Hotel Monasterè is centrally located for walking to major areas of old town Maastricht. Rooms are a bit small and bathroom is not well lit. Excellent breakfast buffet in welcoming environment. Staff was friendly but seemed a bit disorganized at times. Difficult to make/confirm changes in reservations from afar.
