Yufuin Onsen Ryokan Hananomai

The location is not easy to find. No bathroom in the room. But the environment and private family bathroom at ground floor is comfortable and silence. The staff is helpful. They can speak english. The breakfast is good taste

A really nice Japanese style Onsen Hotel with great staff and a warm atmosphere. Their traditional Japanese breakfast was amazing as was the family onsen. Just a short walk from the train station and super close to all the shopping and food stores on the Main Street.

I visited this ryokan in mid-November, on a weekday. The ryokan offers a free pick-up and drop-off service from the local station and bus center, which is extremely convenient. They are located slightly away from the main tourist street, so it makes for a very quiet, serene stay, but it is about 10-15 minutes walk to the main part of town. Carrying luggage with you that entire way would be rather tiring, especially if you have to dodge other tourists along the way. There were mosquitoes even in November, and I woke up to the bloody body of a dead mosquito on my pillow in the morning. The staff left bug spray, but I would have preferred having a more traditional mosquito repellent incense to use instead. The family bath requires no advance reservation, you can just walk in and use it for however long you like it it's open. However, despite being a "family" bath, it is extremely hot... You would definitely not want to put a small child in that bath! There is a cold water valve, but it is hidden and clearly not meant for customers to use.

The room was spotless, and the bath facilities were clean and wonderful. The staff were extremely friendly, and we appreciated the complimentary shuttle service to the bus terminal and train station. I would highly recommend staying here.
