The Abbey Inn

Review from the window/clean room and the staff. I was not at all sure about the food which seemed to lack proper presentation and was not quite what you were expecting. We tried twice with the evening meal but looked elsewhere for the other two nights,

A good stay. Great breakfast. The bathroom was clean, but a little tired and in need of a refurb.

Beautiful setting to stay in looking out onto the river! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the pub is stylishly decorated inside, the rooms were nice too. The food was the highlight! The steak pie and the beef burger were really good, and the full English breakfast delicious too! We will definitely be staying again.

It is a lovely inn right by the river. Clean and well kept, friendly staff and good food. Ideal location for seeing the area.

Location looking out onto the river was lovely. Breakfast great, unfortunately they had no chef for a couple of evenings so no meals available! Staff were very friendly.

Staff all friendly and bedroom overlooking the river was very nice. Bathroom could do with a bit of a refresh but all clean. Food was ok, with vegetarian options. Good for an 'overnighter'. We saw a Dipper on the river from the room (which was named 'Dipper'!)

Excellent staff, good was excellent as well. Room ok just slightly tired.

Lovely traditional inn handily just off a main transport artery. We had dinner and breakfast at the Inn and it was very good. The option to eat outside overlooking the river was a nice bonus. All the staff we dealt with were excellent. The one drawback was the spring mattress which I found to be too soft. Overall a lovely stay.

The staff were wonderful, and the location can't be beat. We unwound each night with a half-pint on the beautiful terrace that is set along the riverbank. The building is a lovely old hodge-podge of levels. We were at the top of it, which involves a stairs-climb that could be hard for some. There is ample parking (very welcome!). It's at the edge of the village, which meant it was a short, pleasant walk to find country lanes for an evening's stroll. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly, and would be happy to stay here again, if we get back to Dorset!

Great service and nice meals. Very quiet. Despite Friday night karaoke downstairs we didn’t hear a thing.

Stayed 2 nights this week with my husband for a belated anniversary trip. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a lovely river view. The breakfast and evening meal were superb. We also enjoyed the quiz on Thursday night. The attentive staff and excellent service complemented a relaxing and enjoyable visit. We would happily stay there again and we will be highly recommending The Abbey Inn to all. Thank you!

Had a lovely few days at the Abbey Inn. Really friendly staff and a lovely room. Located next to an idyllic looking stream with a bar downstairs and great looking food. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and all well cooked. A few minutes walk from the beautiful Buckfast Abbey and a few minutes drive from the quaint shops in Buckfastleigh. Happy to recommend

Our stay at The Abbey Inn was most comfortable and perfect location. We had a nice dinner and breakfast. Could find nothing wrong.

We had a wonderful stay at the Abbey, lovely spotlessly clean room, great food and drink. Best of all were the staff, who made the stay perfect, so friendly and helpful.

Quick and efficient check in; clean and comfortable room; good customer service apart from one mistake on the morning of our departure regarding our breakfast reservation but this didn’t ruin our stay. We are looking to return for Easter next year!

Good facilities, lovely setting close to where I was working. Only issue for a business stay was breakfast started at 8am so I missed it both days.

Well decorated, clean and attractive with. ERY good staff, great breakfast. Room good, although bathroom a little awkward. Up a flight and half of stairs which is difficult if you are disabled but doable.

Lovely few days stay in the main Dart room overlooking the River Dart, amazing views. Room was cosey with everything you need, four poster bed, large tv, shower ensuite & tea/coffee, hairdryer. Breakfast was a menu choice of cooked options, etc. also had several evenings eating in the pub restaurant, small perfect menu food was excellent. Again with views of the river Dart. All staff were friendly & helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

The location next to the river Dart was was a real bonus as was the general location for ease of access to the surrounding area. The staff were really friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

Property was tired looking,and dark in the ground floor resturant. We learnt it was between owners. Being updated in Jan 2025. Limited menu in evening resturant was disappointing, As it was our wedding anniversary.during our 3 night stay.thought we would eat in.that evening. Burgers and chips was not what we envisaged. Room was nice and clean, Kingfisher. Breakfast staff was sociable with everyone. Food hot.

We had a lovely one night stay at the abbey Inn... Very friendly host... as it was our anniversary they had even decorated the table for us for our evening meal.!! Very clean, but very quirky especially the room, but that's part of the charm of staying in an inn.... Amazing setting right on the River dart with seating outside to have a pint or two. A temporarily limited menu but still a very good choice which was very tasty and very reasonably priced. The room itself was clean and tidy, the bed was shall we say was very bouncy and a very soft mattress, however slept well. We have stayed there several times before and we will do so again. 10 minute walk to buckfast abbey and another 15 to 20 minutes walk into town. Breakfast choices and quality was excellent!!
