Very relaxing and enjoyable
Breakfast was very good, everything offered or on request. Accommodation was nice and clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Unfortunately there were quite a few stairs and no lift. I have hip problems which caused slight problems but still enjoyed the stay.

We have no complaints.

Will definitely stay here again.
Hotel was a lovely riverside location, in summer the external seating would be great. Staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was spot on.
Room was slightly smaller than expected but it was very clean & room service was spot on.

A great location for a stay by the river.
Great location right by the River Dart. It was wonderful watching wildlife out of the window and the river had a soothing sound at night.
The food was ok...average pub grub with no surprises.
The bed was small and uncomfortable. A thicker matteess would help no end.

Have potential, but misses the mark.
Room was a good size and had a great view. The room was warm. Quite teh biggest kettle I've ever seen in a hotel room.
Bed was oddly shaped crowned and too soft for my taste, shower cubicle was too small - I barely fitted in and I couldn't persuade any soap out of teh sqeezy bottle. The bedside lamp was too dull to read by, the room was noisy and as it was near the kitchen extractor vent it filled with cooking smells. Meals were workmanlike rather than inspirational. The desk was of no use to work on as it was filled with the hot drinks tray and there were no spare power sockets for laptops of phone charging.
The bar was populated by noisy drunk local youths (at1930)

A lovely family stay!
The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond. The room was comfy and clean.

Execellent but cold in the room.
The staff were very helpful, the food was excellent, my room had an amazing view over the river Dart.
There was very little or no central heating in the room and it was cold. When the radiators did come on they were luke warm and did very little to heat up the room.

Cheap and cheerful
Being permitted to check out at noon on the friday.
Finding my coat in the morning having inadvertently left it in the dining area the previous evening,
Lovely location on the River Dart
Room was very small and the double bed was barely a double, so very cosy!
Being on the top floor with no lift.

Wonderful stay for our anniversary
Perfect location with parking outside. Comfortable bed, plenty of storage in a spacious clean room with a beautiful view of the river. Excellent food and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
Nothing, all perfect.

Glad only spent a few days won’t be using it again.
Food was adequate. Could have been better eg basic white or brown bread granary would have been nice. Same croissants in dish for 4 days.
Sheets and towels clean and changed regularly
Rooms were shabby. Carpets on landing stained. Bell pulls in en suite were filthy at base.
Insufficient room to sit after a meal eg quiz night took over whole pub therefore had to go back to bedroom. As was there with a friend and we had separate rooms it was difficult to relax as there was only 1 easy chair in each room.
4.0 / 10.0
Lovely stay but 4 poster bed way too low and a soft, cheap mattress on it making sleep difficult
Lovely stay but problems with the catering
Not advised that dinner was cancelled on Monday night until we went down to eat!

ABBEY - Buckfast
Location and room.
Variable catering quality and service.
6.0 / 10.0
Apart from the 2 issues mentioned we enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent
Room was a nice size, very clean with comfy king size bed, 3 seat sofa and a dressing table with stool. A very nice view overlooking the Dart river. Plus ample tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water provided. Breakfast was great. We only had diner on the first night but that was also very good.
2 main issues:
1. The en suite bathroom;
The light pull switch is too far away from the entry door - opposite side.
The total area is very small and facilities are consequently difficult to use, the shower is immediately next to the toilet and there is very little space to get round it. The sink is immediately in front of the toilet and there is no adequate space to put toilet bags and things. I found it impossible to dry myself without opening the door and entering back into the bedroom.
2 Few electric points.
There are no spare electric points easily available to charge mobiles, etc.

Devon trip
Location by river was great, ample parking and polite and attentive staff. Food was also great
Room nice but a little weary, door handle loose, a few cobwebs and shower a bit small. Needed a bit more light around tea making tray in room

An honest place to stay. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble.

Amazing location, gorgeous food
Wonderful location right next to the river, gorgeous decor, friendly staff, fantastic food
The bathroom in Dipper was definitely on the "snug" side and in need of updating. The room itself was fantastic

Great overnight stop and very close to the beautiful Buckfast Abbey,
Wonderful location right on the river which you could hear from the room. Good breakfast and attentive staff.
The room was quite compact.

Fabulous staff.. fabulous food.. great ambience. Noise was an issue but did resolve my issue.
The food was fantastic. Loads of gluten free options. Massive portions and loads of variety.
Single room was much bigger than I expected. It was a pleasant surprise. The river and fairy lights created a lovely ambience
The room was noisy as it was over the bar. I was in GoldCrest which is a single.
9.0 / 10.0
A warm and hospitable stay in a beautiful environment.
Everything from the service to the food.
It would be good if the rooms had baths.
8.0 / 10.0
Excellent location and friendly staff.
Excellent food. Breakfast was very well cooked and generous quantities, so filling that only a light snack required until dinner. Had a pizza one evening which was probably one of the best had in along time.
The room had great views of the river and had plenty of space. Large double bed with big screen tv. Very clean.
The bathroom was tiny. Had all the usual facilities but was cramped and very little room to move. An extra couple of feet added to the dimensions would make a huge difference.

Under the current 'management', stay somewhere else.
Having stayed at The Abbey Inn with family approximately 15 years ago, I know the area well and love this part of South Devon.
The Inn is situated beside the wonderful River Dart which is beautiful.
The beds were comfortable.
Lovely view from the Kingfisher Room.
We were expecting to eat at The Abbey Inn, but upon arrival, we were told there was no food available, when I questioned why, I was told, the chef was away for a few days.
There was an issue booking us in because they didn't understand the booking system.
The staff were not in the least bit inviting, and it felt like they couldn't care less that they had paying guests.
We had to walk to another place to eat.
When we returned to get a drink from the bar later, we were shouted at by a male 'I own the place, I'm having a surprise party'. I couldn't hear anything else that may have been said because of the loud singer and music.
The cider was flat, but after a long day of travel, and with the staff unsure of what they were doing, I was too tired to take the drink back inside to the very noisy bar and ask for a new drink.
From approximately 11.15 pm to 2.30 am, the party held by the staff and their friends was obscenely loud, which prevented us from sleeping. There was a lot of shouting, people were fooling around in the hallways and stairs, and doors were banging.
The roadside room was far too hot.
The Kingfisher room bathroom floor was dirty, and the shower cubicle grouting was mouldy and dirty. (Photo shows underneath of bathmat)
When leaving, not one member of staff spoke.
There was no hospitality from any of the staff from the time of arrival to departure.
An awful experience and an unprofessional way to run a business.

Great Breakfast. Pleasant location. Friendly staff
A couple of the evening menu items had sold out which was disappointing. There were other items available however.

Fantastic location by the river, perfect for a stay in Devon
Delicious breakfast, very friendly staff, and nice quiet rooms.
We also had dinner in the restaurant, this was also very good quality
It's location by the river was beautiful
The ensuite was a bit small, and the bedside tables were a bit too close to the bed

Enjoyable and suited what we had planned to do.
The riverside terrace, the attractive dining room and bar. English breakfast was substantial and nice quality.
Bathroom was much too small, and we found the bed rather uncomfortable. Seemed to be on a slope.

Amazing to disappointing.
The outside area was a beautiful place to sit and have a drink or a meal while enjoying the river views.
Restaurant area was decorated beautifully and was a lovely place to sit and enjoy meals.
Fantastic food, I was served a big portion of olives, hummus and bread that could easily be a sharing plate instead of a starter.
Sam who works in the restaurant and bar is asset to this hotel as she is always smiling, friendly, chatty and always offered help to every guest.
The rooms to not follow the decoration and standard of work from downstairs.
En-suite was big let down, flooring cracked from leaking shower, shower tray chipped and water took a long time to reach temperature to have a shower.
Peeling paint on doors, hanging wires from tv are some things that let this room down.
Bar lady needs to work on her communication skills, there are polite ways of telling customers that you will no longer be serving drinks from the bar, sadly saying I won’t be doing any more drinks ! in an abrupt voice at 10:40pm is not a way to get to get customers to return.
If you decorated rooms to a higher standard people would be happy to pay £150 per night.

Lovely place to stay
The room was very clean and newly decorated with a beautiful view. Tea/coffee/water in room on arrival and was refreshed the next day while we were out. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful , the bacon was amazing !!
I would highly recommend and would definitely go back.
The bed was a little soft for me, but I still slept okay. The shower cubicle was on the small side.
The bar and tables felt "sticky", not from food, but maybe the Polish that has been used on them, so you stuck to it when leaning on them.

Charming historic inn in Buckfastliegh.
Breakfast was great. Bar, patio along the creek, and dining area were very nice. Good central location for visiting the Abbey, town, and sights around Buckfastliegh.
Lots of stairs. The facilities are little worn. Of course it is a historic building, built circa 1850, but rooms could use some updating. Would have been nice if staff had offered to take bags up to room.

Pleasant room for improvement
Location, clean staff friendly
The mattress was very uncomfortable and I asked for a ground floor to be told it would be 1st floor which was top floor 2nd, I spoke to one of staff who said they would look into but never got back to me further they were low of food for evening menu often not having items

Satisfactory with a few details to improve
Good- plenty of choice
Bathroom needs work - I mentioned no shower soap and no power for razor. Also, bed tilted to one side

Good place to stay, good food, friendly staff and good riverside location.
Had stayed previously, great location, friendly staff, good food and clean rooms.
Could not eat dinner at the hotel as they had no chef (not their fault but not great). Could not get an early breakfast as we needed to leave early.
