Decor was lovely and cosy it’s been refurbished to a high standard. Staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Food was amazing at dinner too.
Rooms were very warm and no aircon.

the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
The food was delicious, expertly cooked and presented. You could tell it had been prepared with care.
I had the granola for breakfast with compote and yoghurt. The granola was clearly made in the hotel. The bread with the soup was their own bread.

The staff were accommodating before our arrival, they made contact via email a few days prior to our stay offering to add on breakfast and booking. When I didn't know what time we'd be back from the Polar express they offered to keep a table for longer to allow flexibility which was much appreciated. The evening meal was the best we've had in a long time and the room was beautiful, clean and comfortable which made it a very enjoyable stay.

The room was so dated, it was like being transported back to 1970. The place is like a rabbit warren.

We loved the clean and cosy rooms as well as the super cosy bar/dining area with a log fire. The staff were amazing and so attentive, they really made our stay perfect. The hotel was lovely and warm great to drop in for a drink or food even if you aren’t staying. But, I would recommend staying as the rooms are gorgeous ours had a wet room shower which was so lush! We will definitely be coming back to stay for longer!

the mini bar fridge with fresh milk for tea and coffee was a really nice touch
I asked for a twin room, the bed were comfy but very small

The location was conventient and the bar and restaurant wer lovely and the staff great and friendly.
There was scaffold around the hotel for ongoing maintenance works and the workers were noisy when arriving and starting work

Lovely comfortable room with large free-standing bath and four-poster bed. Dinner was a delicious venison stew.
They are in the middle of some renovation work, so there was scaffolding outside, but it didn't affect my stay. I'm sure once it's finished it will be as good on the outside as it was inside.

the room, parking, friendly staff
The place was only just re-opening after substantial refurb; eating facilities not great but no doubt will improve over time!

Staff were helpful. Breakfast was good.
The room I paid extra for was very nice. However the other room was rather basic and there was a stain on the bed sheet. It seems that there is some renovation work going on to improve the hotel. I didn't feel it was great value for money especially as we had to pay extra for breakfast which was just a fry up which was good but there was no additional items such as fruit etc. I think a Premier Inn offers more value for money.

Excellent and delicious bar food/ restaurant menu. Very comfortable & clean room, convenient for exploring Dartmoor. Loved the marketing & coasters with the strapline "Be Wild, Be Free, Be Curious"
Check in a bit confusing, given one room then a different room, unsure why the booking was confused?

Beautifully appointed room with very comfy beds. The hotel were really helpful in changing our booking so that we could have a family room. The room was big with enough space for a large double, a sofa bed for our 3 year old and our dog. The en suite is lovely with a great shower. The garden area for the restaurant was great, breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh. The staff were all friendly and helpful

The customer service was 5* everyone was extremely attentive and friendly.
The part of the hotel which has been refurbished has been done to a high standard.
Breakfast was delicious
Part of the hotel was closed due to refurbishment, which meant we had to take a detour outside and the weather was horrendous when we stayed, however, this won't be a problem when its all finished.

We were there for a wedding but location excellent for access to Dartmoor. Very nice well appointed room.
The weather was bad and there was no access to our room from the restaurant without going outside. Some of the walkways round the wedding area itself were very slippery. Not good for those with a disability.

The new rooms were beautifully designed, very clean and comfortable. The food was gorgeous, the lodge along side the hotel has a great holiday feel, is a wonderful property with delicious food. Majority of the staff are very helpful and welcoming.
I was messaged by the property the day prior to my booking to confirm some details, when we got to the property we were downgraded 2 levels, from a family room (double bed and a sofa) to a twin room with 2 single beds. When I noticed this we were met not with an apology, but rather the excuse that there was an issue with booking.com, then apparently a wedding on and “no rooms available and this was it” and she can “only go by what the system tells her.” I said it is a romantic get away and there was not a single mention the day prior about the issue with the booking, otherwise we would have gone somewhere else. They did then very quickly find us a double room. On check out we were told to pay for breakfast, which she tried to charge on-top of the room. We told them that the cost difference between the rooms we paid for and the rooms we had were entirely different. Her response again was defensive and said “Well I got you a double room didn’t I?” (Still a downgrade from what we paid for) After some back and forth the lady behind the counter took off the breakfast cost due to the monetary difference in rooms, but charged us £3 for the difference, which we felt was rather petty. My partner and I enjoyed the facilities very much, but we felt that the customer experience was not amazing and was met with defensiveness, when in reality all that needed to be said was “I am so sorry for the mix up and that we did not let you know prior to your arrival about the issue. We have fixed you a double room, please, have breakfast due to the cost difference in rooms.” If this had been dealt with the way I just mentioned, I wouldn’t be writing this review, people make mistakes it’s how we fix them that matters.

Work is being done on the property but didn’t affect us.

Clean, modern room with comfortable bed. Nice bar & restaurant areas for relaxing. Food was excellent.

Location very good for our family purposes.
Newly refurbished wing and rooms very nice and well stocked. One criticism is that the wash basin cupboard was too large and the loo was almost inaccessible for an adult
Property under refurbishment so judgement difficult. The restaurant was not open so reliant on
Burger food from adjoining bar.
This will change soon

The newly renovated room that we stayed in was fantastic, very cozy and comfortable for a couple of nights. They were very accomodating with a porta cot for our little one and there was plenty of space in the room for it. We will definitely be coming back.

Refurbishment undergoing to hotel, which was made aware to me once booked.
Room newly decorated and comfortable bed.

Lovely hotel. Currently undergoing refurbishment so some areas were not in use when we visited. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which are done to a very high standard. Lovely bathroom, very comfortable bed. The smaller bar/restaurant was open when we visited and the breakfast was delicious with great options. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location quiet at night.
Room was a little warm, but it was quite warm generally when we were there. The hallways are quite noisy with hard floors, I would recommend a runner to reduce the noise of people walking around and doors closing.

Breakfast was fine but would have liked cereal/fruit/yoghurt as well as a cooked option.
Room very expensive and breakfast an additional cost. £132 was a lot to pay considering the hotel was undergoing renovation.

Was in a refurbished room which was really lovely. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was lovely. Setting was very pretty. Free parking.
A bit of building work was going on so not fully functional when there but disruption was minimal.

the rooms were spacious and beds very comfortable. all facilities required in a bedroom/bathroom were there and modern. breakfasts were good and substantial. excellent location for our needs.
when I booked this hotel (have been before 5 years ago), neither Booking.com nor the Dartmoor Lodge advised that the hotel was under renovation and we were basically staying on a building site! my daughter and I did not appreciate being woken up about 0630 with the sound of builders drilling and hammering away. whilst this work is only due to go on for a few more weeks, this should have been pointed out at the time of booking.

Despite renovations being carried out the hotel could not be more accommodating. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and would recommend a stay here if you are travelling to this part of Devon.
Bonus of a very large car park.
No wardrobe or hangers just a free standing unit which was very stylish but slightly impractical if you travel with a lot of clothes !

A very nice hotel and our dog Bella was made welcome too!! The menu was varied and portions were generous. The food was of a high quality. Our stay was very comfortable throughout

Breakfast very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Bed comfortable.
Rather strangely left one towel each. I say towel, blankets more appropriate. Each one was five foot by three foot, thick and heavy. I don`t like ordinary bath towels, preferring to use just a hand towel, but had no choice. Not good for me or the environment.

The restaurant food is fabulous. Clean comfy room with wonderful views
We were in the annexe, and walked outside to get to main hotel. We got a but wet walking in the rain, having a door closer for guests would prevent that.

Visiting Dart river so location was quite close to the river .
Bathroom needs some TLC , there was mould in and around the shower . Silicone needs renewing.
