Very pleasant pub in the middle of the village. Room was nicely done. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner options were a little limited because the chef didn't turn up, but the other staff tried very hard to help.

Staffed for few hours (pub) on 5 evenings but no one living on premises. Heat in room on first night as pub open but not 2nd night, just small fan heater (only 8degrees or less outside). Room very nice bathroom too, no complaints on that side. The pub staff were very kind on 1st night lovely log fire in pub. Breakfast included but over road in small cafe, lovely food and owner.

Nice clean rooms had to go to the old dairy directly opposite for breakfast as the pub wasn’t open Monday or Tuesday which wasn’t a problem. Lovely area and people really friendly

Booked in for a 3 night stay to visit family. Booking in was quick and painless, the room was clean and stocked with tea and coffee makings. Evening meals were served in the bar or restaurant well cooked the choice was a bit limited but found something every night. Cooked breakfast was very hot and stayed hot till the last mouthful Nice selection of real ales in the bar, our waitress was Sky and nothing was too much trouble.

The bedroom and bathroom were large and well appointed. Problem with shower and hand basin was fixed while we were out on the first day. Full English breakfast available and very well cooked. B & B very separate from pub with its own access so had to ask for milk for drinks in bar and would have liked waste bins emptied. We were the only people staying there. The food in the restaurant was good, with a large menu to choose from.

It is central to Chumley, pleasant staff, good ale. Cold at night, (limited heating and poor insulation) very noisy on a Saturday until the the late hours. (entertainment area right outside bedroom) Food was very poor. No staff available outside of opening hours. (Had to leave without finalising food bill as no staff available). Breakfast served in another establishment (short walk)

Couldn’t fault the Red Lion Hotel. Friendly, attentive staff with great staff. Breakfast was superb, we had a lovely room and a really comfortable stay. Highly recommend and hope to revisit one day. Thank you all.

Right at the heart of the village so convenient. The room was fairly recently updated and well appointed (and warm at a very cold time). You can eat in the pub part of the hotel or in the restaurant (the pub section was colder). Staff were pleasant and helpful. We stayed 2 nights. The restaurant seemed understaffed on the second night so things were very busy for the waitress who coped quite well. Breakfast was substantial. on the first morning it was served over the road at a bakery/café as the chef had an appointment. That was a good breakfast too!

What a pleasant surprise. This was a very nice spacious room. It was quiet and clean. Food was good and the service was very good as well. Only complication was checking in on Monday-we were not aware they wouldn’t be open until 5.

We have stayed at this property a dozen times and can always guarentee a decent meal at the red lion chumleigh. However on this occasion we had a terrible nights sleep. The mattress was awful. Like sleeping on springs. ( room 5 ). Could do with some new mattress. We will try room 3 next time.

Spent three days here over the bank holiday weekend. Room was tastefully decorated with a comfy four poster bed. Large bathroom with great shower. Food in the restaurant is varied of a high standard with good sized portions. Breakfast was excellent. The staff could not of been more friendly or helpful and should we find ourselves back in Devon again I would not hesitate to return.

I enjoyed my stay here immensely. Just the right level of professional and quality delivered casually. Menu had great options and my choices were executed with delicious results. The bedroom and en suite bathroom was clean, comfortable and tastefully minimal. Also quiet. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Easy convenient parking and great rates, the only dreary part is that I don't yet have plans to bring me back to the area because I would like to stay there again.

We booked in to Red Lion then taken down the road to a closed pub and restaurant where are room was. No WiFi Dirty entrance And all the power went off at 8 am while we was getting ready to go for breakfast which wad back up the road at the Red Lion

Great staff, check in closed at 11pm but as we were running late they stayed open for us. We also had to set off early on the Sunday morning so they had the chef make 2 x bacon sarnies for the road. Pros - great staff, clean rooms, great shower. Cons - internet never worked, kept having to return the tv.

We were given a warm, friendly welcome & an upgrade because I'd specifically requested peace & quiet. We were given a room in The Globe (the sister hotel across the road). This was located in a darling little square, with old houses surrounding it, The Globe on one side & the old parish church on the other, making up the square - a memorial in the centre - quite lovely and you could literally hear a pin drop! It was a quiet weekend & consequently we had our own bar maid & chef! The service & food were most excellent. The restaurant was relaxed, spacious & country elegant. The bedroom was super - calming & well dressed with a clean & beautifully designed shower room. In the morning we had breakfast in The Red Lion, in a lovely restaurant with very tasteful decor. The food was served quickly & it was again, most excellent. The history of The Red Lion is really interesting - especially the glass time capsule & contents discovered in a fireplace!
