Perfect location for our weeks break as we could travel from Shirwell to several seaside places

We stayed for two nights when attending a funeral in the area. The owners were very welcoming, kind and understanding. The Spinney is a beautiful property, spotlessly clean with beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished large room overlooking garden and road however we were not aware of traffic. Quality breakfast with a great choice. Really lovely owners. Thank you for making our difficult time very comfortable and for your kindness. We look forward to a return in better times.

Lovely B&B with excellent hosts

The property was lovely. We appreciated knowing some of the history of the house. The house is 18th century and everything was updated and fresh. We were in a room facing the road, however, traffic noise was not a problem. Penny and Mick were fantastic hosts, their attention to detail was outstanding. Our breakfast each day was delicious and beautifully presented. We will definitely be back to visit next time we’re in the area. Thank you both for your kind hospitality.

Breakfast in the conservatory a real treat

The breakfast, hosts, room and grounds were all lovely, and I would have enjoyed spending time in the snug for guests if we hadn't been so busy visiting relatives! Everything was beautifully presented - thank you.

The bedroom was at the front facing the road. The mattresses were uncomfortable, but we are very fussy about mattresses.

Breakfasts were amazing - a wonderful buffet and choice of cooked dishes. Very generous portions and our hosts went out of their way to make us feel at home . Exceptional service . Room was very comfortable and well equipped . Great location. Hosts were very helpful in guiding us on places to eat and visit.

The shower was adequate - lovely and hot but not very powerful. The fridge for the fresh milk ( which was a nice touch compared to uht) was at the bottom of the stairs rather than in the room so we had to go up and down each time we made a hot drink.

The Spinney is located around 3 miles outside Barnstaple so a small journey ito town. However, a good spot to travel across the area from.

Breakfast choice was very good and very well cooked Clean towels daily and room tidied daily Shampoo and body wash etc provided and good quality Room well thought out and very clean Bed so comfortable, therefore very good night's sleep Location meant it was very quiet at all times

Exceptional hosts

The hosts were very friendly and gave lots of tips about local attractions. The breakfast was huge with so many mouthwatering choices and was served in the Orangery surrounded by laden grape vines. The views were spectacular across the valley and the suggested evening dining options superb. All in all a lovely couple of nights. A beautiful homely feeling to the house.

Lovely and welcoming hosts who can’t do enough to make your stay an excellent experience. My room was large with a very comfortable bed. Lovely grounds / garden and great access to local attractions. Highly recommend.

Spotlessly clean throughout the house. Penny & Mick pay exceptional attention to detail & were really welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic, fabulous selection of refresh fruit, juice, yoghurt as well as beautiful freshly cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay again, highly recommend.

Breakfast was cooked very well and plenty of it. It’s as much as I could eat and the homemade bread was really nice . Very accommodating when asked for anything. Homemade ginger biscuits in room added a ice touch and were really nice
