Hotel Comfact

This is a solid, no-frills hotel located close to Ueno Station at an affordable price. We were able to walk to the Ueno Station Park Gate entrance in around 10 minutes, and to Keisei-Ueno Station with all our luggage in about 15 minutes to catch the Skyliner, making it a convenient base for arriving in or departing Tokyo. Staff were attentive and competent throughout our stay, with no problems storing our luggage before check-in and after checkout. Payment was made on arrival. Breakfast was available for an additional ¥1,500 per couple, which we took advantage of and enjoyed, with some local city views from the rooftop dining area on level 11. The rooms were tight, but that's typical for this type of hotel in Tokyo. My only minor criticism was the room lighting, which was a little dull. The hotel supplied information about a coin operated laundromat nearby but I didn't use it. Overall, this hotel delivers where it matters most: location, value, and reliable service. If you're looking for a comfortable base for exploring Tokyo rather than somewhere to spend a lot of time, it's an easy recommendation.

In retrospect we should have paid for a far LARGER room, our twin share was completely insufficient for us. That is our fault for cheap-ing out. We got what we paid for. It was barely enough room to move around in. Again nothing against the hotel, after 10 of our 16 days there I got my son his own room for a few days at a heavily discounted price which was good. The breakfast was okay, it was well tended, a westerner could survive on the coffee and toast, we had that and eastern style food which was fine with us. The sky deck was good to dine in but forget about using at any other time, was always closed to guests... not sure why we could not bring a laptop, do some internet stuff in the evening maybe even socialize. The WiFi was passable. This is a budget hotel close to Ueno station, not much around it. The area is okay nice working class folks. A good base of operations, but not to just hang out in your room to chill. Their air-con filter, (while sufficiently chilling) itself was clogged with dust and grime and looked like it never was ever cleaned. No laundry facilities, no ice machine, the little fridge tried its best. The staff that worked at the desk were absolutely wonderful, people, hardworking and helped when they could. The price for our stay was reasonable, affordable, again you get what you pay for.

The hotel requires an accommodation tax. The train station, food establishments, and convenience stores are a bit far from the hotel, which may be inconvenient for guests without transportation. Room towels were provided daily. The bed headboard was a bit dusty and could use cleaning with wet wipes. There are no other activities or attractions in close proximity to the hotel.
