    Apart from the great location, I did not really enjoy my stay here. After getting to the room around 21.00, I saw on the website (opened via a QR-code in the room) that the sauna would be open until 23.00. I went to the reception desk just before 22.00 to ask for a bathrobe. A young man at the desk said: "You'll be able to enjoy it for exactly one minute, it's closing at 22.00." I said the website says 23.00, but he insisted the schedule had changed and the website was not updated. I assumed he was right because many hotels have shortened sauna opening hours to save costs. The next morning, I checked out and returned the bathrobe still folded, and pointed out to another gentleman at the desk that the website still had not been updated. He said that the sauna is actually open until 23.00, and said sorry. I find it annoying that the other guy insisted it was closing and did not offer to keep it open a bit longer, and I did not get to use the sauna at all.

    I had a most pleasant stay at the Baseler Hof. The staff wss accommodating and very helpful. They offered parking at their garage behind the hotel at a lower rate than public parking. The hotel’s location was perfect for walking and exploring Hamburg. The hotel has a homey and warm atmosphere and it seems as if the employees were all part of a family. On the day that I checked out, I had casually mentioned that I found reading about the history of the hotel interesting ( they had photos and articles framed along the walls). Imagine my surprise when I was handed an 111 year anniversary hardbound book of the hotel! If ever I am in Hamburg again, I shall always stay at the Baseler Hof.
